Children’s activities outside the class are important for their self-
development, and they can learn from playing games with their friends.
Children of yesterday and today have a large number of pastimes. Pastimes of
children in the past and children today are different in the games they play
and the space they play.
Children of today have the other choices of the games they play
by/in comparison with children of yesterday. Today children play
technological games with less face-to-face communication. It is clear that the
industrial revolutions have put their footprint on all aspects of our life
including pastimes of our children. With the exponential growth/increase of
devices children tend to play video games at computers and use
smartphones to surf the Internet. The games they play encompass a wide
range of genres, for example Free Fire, Angry Bird, Minecraft and so on and
so forth. Pastimes of children in the past often involve physical activities and
exercises. They go flying a kite, and they use imagination while playing dolls
or taking part of house, family, restaurant which are good for their overall
health condition.
The space children play has also been changed over the time. In
the past children play outdoors, but nowadays children often choose indoor
games. Besides, the type of game dictates where the game should be take
place. Playing football, skipping rope and hide and seek normally require
more space than computer games. At present many parents give their children
modern devices and gadgets to keep them staying in the house for fear of
being kidnapped or being in dangerous situations. On the other hand,
children in the past often enjoy various activities with friends outside the
house. Depend on where they live, children can fly a kite on the field or go
roller skating in the nearby square.
We can see that pastimes are part of the childhood of a person.
Pastimes of children of yesterday and today has changed dramatically in
terms of the types of games they play and the choice of surroundings where
they play. All good parents had better take time and attention to guide
children in this all-important area of their early life.
