I. OPENING PRAYER
Before you begin our school work today, let us take some time to pray.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Jesus, I come before you at the beginning of this day. I gaze at your face, I look upon your side
pierced by the lance. Your wounded heart speaks to me of God’s love poured out for us. Take, Lord,
and receive my heart: the words of faith that I speak, the works of justice I would do, my joys and
sufferings. When I come to the Eucharistic altar, gather my offerings to your own for the life of the
world. At the end of the day, place me with Mary, your mother, with St.Matthew and all the saints by
your side, forever surrounded by your love. Amen.

In this Learning Kit, you will understand why Jesus sufferred and died. Jesus said that the greatest
love we can show for our friends is to sacrifice for them. Jesus showed us the greatest love when He
allow Himself to be crucified and to die on the cross. Jesus death freed us from sin. His death
showed us how much He loves us.

Read the story on how Jesus suffered and died for us on pages 66-67.
- The story describes what Jesus went through. He was mocked. He was crowned with thorns.
He was scourged at the pillar. He carried the cross. He was nailed on the cross. This shows
how much He loves us. In the same way, He wanted us to follow His command which is
“Love one another as I have loved you.”
What is sacrifice?
- Sacrifice is giving up something for a better purpose. Like what Jesus did, he offered his life
so that God will forgive us with our sins. In doing so, we were redeemed from sins.
- God is calling us to do the same. To sacrifice our wants so that others may live. Example,
saving your “baon” in order to buy gift for your mother, or waking up early on Sundays to
attend Mass.
- Others equate sacrifice to suffering but they are not the same. You can suffer without
purpose but when you say sacrifice, it means suffering with a purpose of becoming a better
person.
Paschal Mystery
- It refers to four ideas about the process that Jesus went through to save humanity from sin.
- Jesus suffering and death on the cross and resurrection redeemed us from our sinfulness
and made us children of God. We must be thankful to Jesus for saving us by being prayerful
and kind to others.
- When we go to Church and attend Holy Mass every Sunday, we must listen attentively to the
priest and participate actively by singing the songs. When we pray and do our very best to
follow Jesus example of love and kindness to others, it shows that we are one family
thanking Jesus for His great love for us.
What is true sacrifice? Write your answer on the space provided below.
VIII. NEED TO APPLY/ VALUES INTEGRATION/ LIFE EXPERIENCE
Activity # 4
St. Augustine said, “We pray twice when we sing.” Study this song and sing it with hearts full of
love to the Lord. You may also use this link https://youtu.be/MMuOZbtDm8U
A. Jesus loved us very dearly. He died on the cross to save us from our sins. In doing so, we
become God’s children. Let us thank God and praise Jesus for His great love for us. You will
make a thank-you card expressing your appreciation to the persons who make sacrifices for
you to become better. The persons can be your parents, teachers, and brothers or sisters.
Use your creativity. Design your work. Make it colorful.
B. Look at the pictures. What can you tell about them? What did Jesus do for us?
