West Side Market

The West Side Market is the oldest market in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. It is on the
corner of West 25th Street and Lorain Avenue. Most people who live near the West
Side Market still do their shopping there. It is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from
7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m.
The market attracts tourists from all parts of the United States, who tour the market
and learn about its history. City officials offer guided tours. The market is more famous
now because of recent television shows on the Travel Channel and Food Network.
The market first opened in 1912. Some of the same families still sell their vegetables at
the market now, 100 years later! The sellers are culturally diverse, much like the city of
Cleveland. Currently, the sellers come from Ireland, Germany, Italy, Greece, Poland,
Russia, the Middle East, and other countries.
Food Network Magazine calls the West Side Market 'the best food lover's market.'
