LESSON DETAILS

LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Understand the definition of draping and history
• Students must be able to identify tools needed for draping
• Learning the terminology used for draping techniques
• Know how to choose the correct fabric for draping
• Understand the Principles of draping
• Be able to implement the principles of draping during the practical activity.

LESSON CONTENT
• Definition of draping
• History of draping
• Tools and fabric needed for successful draping
• Principles of draping and how to apply them on the dress form.

INTRODUCTION
During this phase the lecturer must gain the learners attention, awaken their inspiration, explain the purpose of the lesson, and review
any prerequisite knowledge.

• Show an example of a draped dress form and ask learners to describe what they see. (This will engage
the learner’s attention and improve participation)
• For the Mock Lesson this will be done by PowerPoint.

FACILITATOR ACTIVITIES

1. METHOD
The lesson will be delivered by presentation (15min)
Demonstration of tools and the fabrics for draping (5min)
Practical presentation of draping principles on the dress form (in normal circumstances) For the mock lecture I will just be
discussing the principles due to the time limit.

• This storyboard will be translated into a Garment Construction project in Drapery.

• Understanding and correct marking of the dress form.
• Correct draping technique and successful completion of the basic draped bodice.

SUMMARY
Conclude what you have discussed in the middle phase. The most important points of the lesson should be mentioned
briefly.

• Choosing the correct weight of Muslin for your project.


• Marking the dress form at the Apex, Side seam and Centre front for accurate draping of the basic
bodice.
• Blending, and smoothing out the folds by using techniques like clipping at the neckline, inserting darts.
• Correct pinning and marking of darts side seams and seam allowances.
• Transferring the draped bodice to a flat lay pattern using the marking created.
Please take note of this, as this is what I would demonstrate on the dress form in classroom format for
the students.
