Activity II
Directions: Read various internet or printed sources, and find out if it is
possible to have a single global government. Write your substantial conclusion
in the space provided.

Base from the articles that I have read, it is possible to have one,
but I don't think we will get one. This despite the fact that there are good
reasons to believe we are moving towards a world government in the long
run, considering; 1.) There is a historic tendency of consolidation among
countries, moving to ever bigger states. 2.) One of the processes driving
this trend is technological innovation, and technology is currently
advanced enough to effectively rule a world empire and there is nothing to
prevent this process. If we ever do, it will be followed at some point by a
global civil war, and a lot of people will die before we just go back to
Westphalian sovereignty. The planet is filled with countless diverse
environments, not to mention countless different cultures and ways of life
among its billions of people. People living in different parts of the world
have different needs and requirements, which could never be addressed
effectively by a government charged with addressing the needs of each
and every one of them.

A one-world government would have those same issues, a

thousand times more complex. There is a reason why people assemble
themselves in nation-states, and the future is going to see more nation-
states, not less, as distinct peoples form their own nations and see to their
own affairs and destinies. Based from the article, there are currently 206
countries in the world (including the ones that exist, but the UN likes to
pretend don’t exist). Two hundred years from now, none of us may be
around to see it, but there will be 300 countries. Instead of trying to force
globalism down everyone’s throat, what we need to be doing is enable
every nation to exercise its right to self-determination.
