ROLEPLAY THERAPEUTIC AND NON-THERAPEUTIC COMMUNICATION

A. Theraupetic Communication

Nurse : Good morning, Ma’am

Patient : Good morning, Nurse

Nurse : Okey, Ma’am, my name is Rizatuz Zuhro Noorsy. You can call me Risa, and
what is your name?

Patient : My name is Mrs. Lilis.

Nurse : Mrs. Lilis, i will take care of you from this morning until this afternoon.
Exactly at 2 pm, if you need anything or any help you can call me in nurse station.
So, how are you today?? Do you have any problem today?

Patient : Yeah, there is something wrong with me, i have a problem with headache and
my nape feel heavy.

Nurse : Did you sleep well last night, Ma’am?

Patient : Not really, cause I still got a problem with my headache.

Nurse : Okey mrs. Lilis, this morning i will check your condition, i would like to
measure your blood pressure. May I?

Patient : Sure, nurse Risa, i’m ready, please check it.

Nurse : Would you mind to stretching your hand, please?

Patient : Of course.
Nurse : Excuse me, Ma’am. Would you mind roll your sleeve up?

Patient : Sure.

Nurse : (Checking the blood preassure)

Nurse Risa finished the measure of the patient blood pressure.

Patient : How about my blood pressure, Nurse?

Nurse : Your blood pressure is 140/90 mmHg. You got a problem with your blood
pressure cause is too high range and i will report this to a doctor. and now you
need a rest a little bit. Morever, you have to avoid the high fat foods, and also
limit sodium, sweets, sugary drinks, and red meats. Often exercise and dont to be
stress.

Patient : Okey nurse, thank you for your information, i’ll change to my lifetyle.

Nurse : Your wellcome and after that you should take your medicine, be healthy,
Ma’am

Patient : Yes, Nurse.

Nurse : Ok, Ma’am, if you need something, you can call me in nurse station.

Patient : Yes, thank you, Nurse.

Nurse : Your welcome, Ma’am. Get well soon

B. Non Theraupetic

At Bhakti Husada Hospital, there is a patient named Mrs. Martha with a diagnosis of
Hypertension. The nurse comes to the patient's room to check blood pressure.
Nurse : Morning ma'am.
Patient : Good morning.
Nurse : I am nurse Purnama, today I will check your blood pressure.
Patient : Yes, please.
(Without asking the situation about the patient, The nurse immediately checks the
patient's blood pressure)
Nurse : I have finished checking your blood pressure, then I will back to the nurse
station. If you need any help, you just have to press the button in your left side of
your bed.
(The nurse leaves without notifying the patient's blood pressure result)
Patient: Fine, thank you. But How about my blood pressure? Hmm…
Nurse: (just nods)
In the afternoon, Mrs. Martha want to take her medicine, but there’s not a water. So, she
call the nurse to help her.
(Then the patient calls the nurse)
Nurse : What's wrong, Ma’am?
Patient : I ask for help to get a glass of water to take medicine.
Nurse : Ok, wait for a moment.
(shortly thereafter, the nurse came with a glass of water)
Nurse : This is the water (while handing the glass in front of the patient, without offering
help to help the patient take medication)
Patient : Thank you, Nurse.
Nurse : OK. oh yeah, as far as I know, you had to take the medicine 2 hours ago, right?
But, you still take your medicine right now?
Patient : Sorry, Nurse, I forgot it.
Nurse : How can you forget it? Even though I remind you every day and you can't be
late!
Patient : Yes, nurse. I’m sorry, I will not repeat it again. I was late taking medicine too
because I didn't know what is the medicine take and it’s dosage.
Nurse : Ma'am, it was written on the medicine about what drugs and when to take them.
The way to take it is also on the drug label. You should have looked at the packaging
more carefully.
Patient : Ok, I'm sorry, Nurse
Nurse : OK then, excuse me
(The nurse leaves the patient with an exasperated face)
Patient: What a unfriendly person she is!
