One day, a young farm boy named Eragon finds a blue stone while hunting and tries to sell it for money. Unsuccessfully in
his attempt, he takes the stone back to his cabin and lets it sit there until it hatches into a beautiful blue dragon. Eragon
realizes he can talk to this secret pet dragon with his mind, and eventually learns that he and the dragon are part of a legacy
of secret heroes called the riders. With the help of Brom, a wise man, Eragon matures into his destiny. The challenges he
faces include fighting a long-standing war, helping an ethereal elf and dealing with tragedy and revenge. Certain details,
such as Eragon’s revelation that cannot read, develop this rich work and blend together to produce a number of plot twists.
The story builds suspense steadily until the end.
Remarkably, author Cristopher Pollini began writing Eragon at the age of 15. Now 19, he has already established himself as
an exciting new creator whose influences include Tolkien, McCaffrey, and others. His word is intricate, his character
believable, and his writing engaging. Hard core, fans of fantasy and science fiction novels, will be enchanted by this well-
crafted fantasy and unquestionably will look forward to this exciting trilogy.
It is probably one of the most important books I’ve ever read. Not for its heavy philosophy, practical instructions, or
memorable quotes; but for its simple message of how wonderful life can be when viewed through the eyes of an innocent
child. Each story is only a page or two, a delightful narrative of how Totto-chan views the world, and how Mr. Kuroyanagi
inspires the children to explore, learn, feel, and have joy. There are several charcoal drawings that capture the tenderness of
the stories, making us feel a part of Totto-chan’s world.
One of my favourite vignettes is the story of losing her hat in the septic tank at the school and proceeds to dig it out. The
headmaster walks by, and after a few question to satisfy his curiosity, and hearing her earnest explanations, he lets her
continue with the simple instruction, “make sure you put it all back!”
Totto-chan, the Little Girl at the window is a celebration of childhood, learning and caring. We’ve enjoyed reading one or two
stories for bedtime off-and-on for a couple of years, and almost don’t want to finish the book because it will mean there are
no more stories. Totto-chan seems so real and loveable, and her headmaster is a role model for parents and teachers.
The book is written by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi and translated by Dorothy Britton.
A blonde and a lawyer are seated next to each other on a flight from LA to NY. The lawyer asks if she would like to play a fun
game. The blonde, tired, just wants to take a nap, politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks. The
lawyer persists and explains that the game is easy and a lot of fun.
He explains, "I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5.00, and vise versa." Again, she declines
and tries to get some sleep. The lawyer, now agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5.00, and if I
don't know the answer, I will pay you $500.00." This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring there will be no end to this
torment unless she plays, agrees to the game. The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the earth to the
moon?" The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches into her purse, pulls out a $5.00 bill and hands it to the lawyer. "Okay" says
the lawyer, "your turn." She asks the lawyer, "What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four legs?" The
lawyer, puzzled, takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references, no answer. He taps into the air phone with
his modem and searches the net and the library of congress, no answer. Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his friends and
co-workers, to no avail. After an hour, he wakes the blonde, and hands her $500.00.
The blonde says, "Thank you", and turns back to get some more sleep. The lawyer, who is more than a little miffed, wakes
the blonde and asks, "Well, what's the answer?" Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5.00,
and goes back to sleep.
A farmer came across a bird with a broken wing. He picked it up, took it home and looked after it lovingly, even though his
wife complained bitterly about his wasting too much time on the creature. After some time, the wing mended and, because
the bird did not want the farmer to have kept on arguing with his wife all the time, it decided to go back to its nest.
When the farmer discovered that the bird was gone, he was so upset that he went out to look for it. Eventually, he found it
again, and was greeted happily by the whole family of the bird. As a sign of their thanks for his care and attention, the birds
gave him a little box, and told him not to open it until he got home.
To his surprise, the farmer found the box full of precious stones. When his wife saw them, she decided that she too deserved
a reward, and she went to see the birds. The birds give her a little casket, but this one was full of devils. The devils jumped
on her as soon as she opened the casket and chased her away.
Left alone, the farmer went to live near his friend, the bird. There he built a hut of perfumed wood, and the birds decorated it
with flowers of every kind.
The story to ‘Kung Fu Panda’ is nothing really new, but it is told so well as to actually pack an emotional punch. And it never
comes off as laughable, which in lesser hands could easily have happened. Speaking of laughs, there are many to be had
here as well. ‘Kung Fu Panda’ works on just about every level a family movie can.
The cast features Jack Black as Po the Panda. The furious five, the most feared group of warriors in all of China, consists of
Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Mantis (Seth Roger), Viper (Lucy Liu), and Crane (David Cross). Their
master is Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), a fur ball creature who is a legendary teacher of Kung Fu. Escaped from prison and on his
way to claim the Dragon Scroll, which will make him the all-powerful Dragon Warrior, is the good gone bad Tai Lung (Ian
McShane). But first, he’ll have to muscle his way around 400 pounds of panda to get to it.
‘Kung Fu Panda’ is a damn good time at the movies. This was the movie that DreamWorks Animation so desperately needed
after the disappointing ‘Shrek the Third’. With gorgeous animation, spectacular action, a great cast and dramatic weight of an
Akira Kurosawa film, Kung Fu Panda is one of the favourite movies of the year.
Does Statham's remake of the Bronson hitman pic hit its mark?
A remake of the 1972 movie of the same name starring Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent, The Mechanic stars
Jason Statham as Arthur Bishop, a "mechanic" (elite hit man) renowned for his stealth and efficiency in eliminating targets.
Bishop is a gun-for-hire for (what else?) a secretive, powerful agency connected to all the right people and institutions.
A loner whose only companionship is the occasional tryst with a hooker, the bayou-based Bishop's world is rocked when his
old mentor, Harry McKenna (Donald Sutherland), is killed. Reluctantly teaming with Harry's ne'er-do-well, violent son Steve
(Ben Foster), Bishop sets out to train his newfound protégé in the deadly arts. Together, they'll go after the agency (led by
Tony Goldwyn in the thankless "soulless official" role, but who still gets to deliver the film's most outrageously hilarious
threat). It may not be saying much, but the Mechanic is the best film director Simon West (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Con Air)
has made. Infused with a smooth style and pacing perhaps resulting from its Louisiana locations, West delivers an action
movie that's a lot more dramatically effective and entertaining than its trailers and tired premise would lead you to believe.
22. “Bishop is a gun-for-hire for a secretive, powerful agency ….” Which of the following is not synonymous with the
underlined word?
A. Sly. B. Honest C. Furtive. D. Sneaky. E. Surreptitious.

Satellite Space-eyes does not look like the satellites of the 1980’s. It has large wings that gather solar power. The power is
for the motor. It keeps the satellite in the same place above the earth. All the big farmers in the area have paid for the cost of
Satellite Space-eye.
Constants in one of those farmers, his home computer makes the connection with Satellite Space-eye. He asks to see
picture of the field in the south-west corner of his farm. The picture appears on a TV screen. It is a picture of a green wheat
field. Everything looks fine. He then asks the computer to show the same area, but in colours. The colours show the different
temperatures in the field. He knows healthy wheat plants will all be green. The TV screen blinks and a beautiful pictures
appears. It has many shades of blue, red, and green.
Constants looks closely at the large red spot near the middle of the wheat field. He knows that something is wrong in the
wheat field. He knows that something is wrong in the wheat field. The red colour means the spot is warmer than its
surroundings. It may be due to-lack of moisture or not enough nutrients in the soil. Insect eating the wheat can also show a
red spot.
Constants tells the computer to tell him more about the warm spot. The computer points out that the problem is a shortage
of nitrogen in the soil. He asks the computer to predict the harvest if he adds the fertilizer. He then tells the computer the
current market price for wheat. He also tells the price of the fertilizer. He asks for a costing. He wants to know if it will give
him a profit to add the fertilizer. The computer gives him the answer, is it a science fiction? No, it is happening now.
One day, a professor entered his classroom and asked his students to prepare for a surprise test. They all waited anxiously
at their desks for the exam to begin. The professor handed out the exam with the text facing down, as usual. Once he
handed them all out, he asked the students to turn over the paper. To everyone’s surprise, there was no questions-just black
dot on the centre of the paper. The professor seeing everyone’s faces, told them the following, “I want you to write about
what you see there.” The students, confused, got started on the inexplicable task. At the end of the class, the professor took
all the exams and started reading each one of them out loud in front of the students. All of them, with no exception, defined
the black dot, trying to explain its position in the centre of the sheet. After all had been read, the classroom was silent, the
professor started to explain, “I’m not going to grade you on this, I just wanted to give you a matter to think about. No one
wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black dot and the same thing happens in our lives.
However, we insist on focusing only the black dot-health issues that bother us, lack of money, complicated relationship,
disappointment, etc. the dark spots are very small when compared to everything we have in lives, but they are the ones that
pollute our minds. Take your eyes away from the black dots in your lives. Enjoy each one of your blessings, each moment
that life gives you. Be happy and life filled with love.
