About This Book
W elcome to Solve-the-Riddle Phonics Practice! The engaging riddle
activities in this collection offer a unique and motivating way
to help students practice the basic sound-letter relationships
needed in decoding, comprehension, writing, and spelling. Chosen
especially for their appeal to primary-grade students, each riddle activity
targets a specific phonics skill, such as short and long vowels, variant
vowel patterns, r-controlled vowels and diphthongs, and initial- and
ending-consonant clusters and digraphs. As students enjoy solving these
