Why Are Hobbies Beneficial

Due to a recent global pandemic, some people think there is nothing to do while being

stuck in their homes. However, this is far from the truth because this is the best opportunity to

explore and find an interesting hobby this is an excellent opportunity to build or rediscover an old

hobby because of the increased time at home. Hobbies are beneficial because they increase mental

health and teach people information and skills.

One of the many benefits of developing a hobby is spending time on an activity that

improves the individual's mental health and wellbeing. Not only does it give us something fun to

do during our leisure time and the opportunity to learn a new skill, but there are so many different

options out there today. In fact, there are entire websites and books devoted to hobbies and

interests. Furthermore, people with hobbies are less likely to be stressed or suffer from depression.

According to the academic journal Nature, "Research has linked participation in leisure activities

to many measures of physical and mental well-being"(Rosen). This particular reason for

circumstances is that hobbies provide relaxation time in the person’s schedule, this can be

especially useful for the people who no longer have their normal activities due to the recent

pandemic. In addition, hobbies open people up to communities with the same interest, this can

improve the person’s communication skills and relationships with others by participating in group

activities. To sum up everything that has been stated, hobbies are good because they improve a

person’s overall wellbeing and mental health.

Contrary to this opinion, hobbies can be very beneficial, but they can also have a negative

impact. Some hobbies can be very costly and not profit much as well as time consuming to the

creator if their real job requires long hours or hard work. Not only can this put a negative impact

on the person's mental health but can also cause stress. Along with that hobbies that some would

consider out of the persons budget and could deter the individual from wanting to do hobbies at

all. To briefly paraphrase, hobbies can make certain individuals lose more money than they would

be gaining.

Lasty but not least, the saying goes too much of a good thing is never good. Owing to the

fact that hobbies can become a deadly obsession to a person's life. Especially when the person is

excessively obsessed with the hobby and will only focus on that hobby instead of the top priority.

Furthermore, it may distract the individuals from social time, academics, or the job that the person

currently has. All in all, hobbies distract from your main occupation and what the individual has

as a hobby might be beneficial career wise.

Additionally, certain hobbies such as painting or sewing can not only improve overall

happiness but also can potentially turn into a career. This is often an ideal business to start because

the person will already be experienced, there by shortening the learning curve and startup time.

Not only are there an abundance of platforms that will help the individual get started with any kind

of hobbies. Furthermore, starting an online business is more beneficial because there is less cost

in renting a building but also due to a recent pandemic this has been more popular than ever.

According to the author Braveen Kumar, “Depending on how you direct your talents and interests,

you can get anything from free stuff to extra spending money to a full-fledged business where you

sell things online.” Everything considered, hobbies are beneficial because they can help gain extra

money or lead people into a career.

So, the bottom line being, hobbies are beneficial because they increase mental health and

teach people information and skills, as well as a potential lifetime career. Hobbies are good because

it improves overall lifestyle and could be a future career. Furthermore, everyone should do

whatever they love but it is very naïve to only stick with it. If the hobby isn’t a current main

occupation, then only keep a certain amount of time for it. However, this is not a bad thing. All an

all hobbies are beneficial and help people cope through a deadly pandemic where social activities

are nonexistent.
