This activity is the first step in the formulation of the research project thru identification of
initial topics selection. This learning activity will help attain the intended learning
outcomes of this module.

1. On the topics that have been enumerated on the provided reading materials, what do you
think is the most significant issue and the researchers must prioritize?

Answer

The most significant issue and the researchers must prioritize on the topics that
have been enumerated on the provided reading materials is the  AppLERT: A Mobile
Application for Incident and Disaster Notification for Metro Manila – Fabito, 2016. I
choose this because we all know “The Big One” it is a worst-case scenario of a 7.2-
magnitude earthquake from the West Valley Fault, a 100-kilometer fault that runs
through six cities in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. A tsunami is also foreseen
in the scenario set by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
(PHIVOLCS). So it will totally helps all the citizen of Metro Manila to be prepare for
this situation.

2. Identify the problem that you can identify on the topic that interests you, and what is it?
Why does it interest you?

The problem on the topic that interests me is there is no alarm message before
and after the disaster because it is a big help to the people to know what will
happening and to know if the disaster is already over.

3. From the problems that have been identified, discuss the possible IT solution that you will
apply.

A pop-up notification that even the phone is in silent mode it will alarm. And
it will display the safety precaution to be safe in the disaster, for example your
phone alarm because of an earthquake after that alarm it will display the safety
tips to survive in earthquake. Some people will panic because they didn’t know
what will to so this safety tips will can help.

4. To sum up, what do you feel you've learned worth knowing this topic? (If your answer is
"nothing", explain why.) (Please note: this question is about the article and refers to the
quality of information it contains.)

This application will be a useful and it can save life of the people. AppLERT is
so good for the Metro Manila because we all know the BIG ONE, earthquake with
7.2 or more than magnitude. I’m so amazed that the researcher had an idea like
this.

5. Tell me anything you would like me to know about your experiences doing this analysis, or
any suggestions you have for future revisions of this assignment.

I’m not feeling well Ma’am so I have a rough time to do this assignment.

D. thesis statement could be: The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of
Santa Cruz Laguna encounters several problems in handling emergency response
management from handling emergency response –communication, data management and
report generation. The development of an automated emergency response management
system provides faster responding time in case of emergency incidents for the Municipal
Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Santa Cruz Laguna and its residents. This
will enhance the communication between the responders and the residents, manage
pertinent data and generate relevant report.
