Dream Classroom Assignment

This was a fun project! I set my classroom up like I am going to be teaching Kindergarten or first
grade. I have always dreamed of having a colorful rug for my students to come sit and listen to
read-a-louds, or just work on the smartboard. I have tables because I think it is good for students
to work collaboratively. I have plenty of storage around the room for extra supplies, games, and
other stuff I may need throughout the year. I have a student supply counter with math buckets
and word sorts there, where depending on the lesson or day I can put the other materials students
will need to grab on it. It is in a perfect spot on the side of the room so students will be out of the
way while grabbing their things. My classroom management will be happening by me always
having a plan. I will not let my students have that time to get off task because I will always be
ready for the next step. I will have affordances by marking off by my desk where they can't go
behind and have the storage with stuff that isn’t safe locked. The one thing I wish I could change
about this would be not using crayons, I think it made it look a bit messy, but the overall layout
and everything I have in my classroom I love.

6 keys in my Classroom:
Safety: I have a safety box on the wall by my desk that we will talk about on the first week of
school. I also have my classroom expectations up in the front of the room which will help
students feel safe and respected.
Success: On the whiteboard each day I will write the standards and objectives for me to go over
with my students before the lesson. I have learning support stations as the back table for learning
station and the math buckets/word sorts for them to create their own station at their desks.
Love & Belonging: The bulletin in the back of the room will be where I am going to put up all
my student's artwork that we do in class. The environment of my classroom is neat and organized
and well maintained to make my students feel good in my class.
Freedom & Independence: In the back of the room, I have a reading nook area that students
can go, sit and read if they finish their work early. I also have the table in the back for students to
go and draw or play a game with a friend when we have free time.
Fun & Enjoyment: We will have lots of fun in my classroom. I plan for that to happen with lots
of group time on the colorful carpet, whether it be singing a song or a read aloud. They also will
have fun & enjoyment by being able to play the games I will have in the cabinets for when we
have free time.
Valued Purpose: They will feel valued in my classroom by having their art displayed in the
back of the room. They will also feel valued because I will have my classroom set up in a way
that makes them feel safe and welcomed.
