CVL281: Assignment 2

All the students have to submit the assignment in the form of a scanned pdf on Moodle by May
2nd, 2021 midnight i.e., 11:59 pm.
Note: Last time was an exception, no deadline extension will be permitted this time!!
Take the values of X, Y & Z using the following format:
Student’s entry number: 2019CE10XYZ (Ex: 2019CE10154 then X=1, Y=5, Z=4, moreover,
YZ = 54, YX = 51, etc.)

Problem 1:
Do two iterations and adjust the flows. Use Hardy Cross Method: hL = r Q2

Use the values according to your entry number:

Q1 = YZ, Q2 = XY, Q3 = XZ, Q4 = YX, r1 = X, r2 = Y, r3 = Z, r4 = |Y - Z|, r5 = |X-Z|, r6 =
|X+Y-Z|, r7 = |X-Y+Z|
Hint: If for any pipe r = 0, it means that there is no head loss when the flow takes place from
the given pipe.

Problem 2:
Determine Q1, Q2 & Q3.
Use the values according to your entry number:
z1 = XYZ, z2 = |XYZ - XY|, z3 = |XYZ - XZ - Y|, L1 = (X + Y) * 100, L2 = (Y + Z) * 100,
L3 = (|Y + Z - X|) * 100, D1 = X + 2Y + Z, D2 = X + 2Y + 2Z, D3 = 2X + Y + 2Z, f1 =
(0.0YX), f2 = (0.0YZ), f3 = (2X + 2Y + 2Z) / 1000
Problem 3:
For a given turbulent flow in pipe of (0.YZ)m diameter, velocities measured with the help of
pitot tube at mid-point and quarter-point are found to be {(X+Y+Z+2)/10}m/sec and {(|Y+Z-
X|)/10}m/sec, respectively. Compute the discharge, friction factor and the average height of
roughness.

Problem 4:
The velocity of flow in a badly corroded pipe of (XY)cm diameter is found to increase by
(X+Y+Z)% as the pitot tube is moved from point 1cm from the pipe wall to a point 2cm from
the wall. Determine the height of roughness.

Remember: Please start solving each question from a new page.

This assignment carries a weightage of 10 marks (2 questions for 3 marks each & 2 questions
for 2 marks each).
