Part I. 20 points. Answer 4 questions in this part of the exam. Choose either all the even numbered
or all the odd numbered questions to answer for 5 points each. Note that you must choose the
questions that you think you could answer which point is equivalent to 5. In your answer sheet (yellow
paper or bond paper) write ‘Part I Exam Questions & Answer’. The odd numbered questions are in bold
letters while even numbered questions are underlined.

1. The poem “Sa Aking Mga Kabata” is a written work attributed to Rizal when he was at age eight.
However, there are speculations and controversy that it is not Rizal who wrote the poem, give,
and explain your stand.

2. Rizal gave letters to the persons important to him before he was executed and who are these persons
and what are the most important messages given by him to those persons? Elaborate briefly.

3. What is the so-called ‘Masonry’? Expound your answer.

4. Explain the role of Paciano in the different aspect of Rizal’s life.

5. What is the structure or system of education during the time of Rizal in his higher education?

6. La Liga Filipina was Rizal’s organization against the Spanish rule, what happened to this organization
during Rizal’s travel abroad up to his execution.

7. How important is Rizal’s mother to him? Elaborate your answers by giving evidences.

8. How will you compare Rizal’s childhood to your own experiences as a child and what are the similarities
and differences? Elaborate.
Part II. 30 points. Choose 3 questions to answer for 10 points each. Note that you must choose the
questions that you think you could answer which point is equivalent to 10. In your answer sheet
(yellow paper or bond paper) write ‘Part II Exam Questions & Answer’.

1. What are the values that the young Rizal gained from his significant others and how these values mold
him to a character? Enumerate these values and add these up to identify character traits which you
think Rizal developed in his childhood and early education.

2. The ‘retraction’ of Rizal was a controversy discovered after his death, what do you think are the effects
of the discovery of retraction of Rizal in the Philippine History?

3. Maximo Viola is a friend of Rizal equated as the value of ‘gold’ in the article given to you. Justify the
worth of Maximo Viola to Rizal’s life.

4. Give 5 countries visited by Jose Rizal that you think are the most significant to him and describe how it
influences Rizal’s life abroad.

5. Compare the life of Rizal in his higher education in the schools where he attended and explain his
achievements in these schools.
