A Lesson Plan on Teaching Simple Past Form of the Verb


For Grade 7 Zircon, Mauretania, Aquamarine, Topaz and Moonstone

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of a 45-minute class discussion, the students will be able to:
a. recognize and write verbs using the past tense;
b. identify the past tense of some of the irregular verbs; and
c. perform the designated and planned activities

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary
The students’ attendance will be checked. This will be followed by a
simple recapitulation.

B. Motivation
The class will be asked if whether they are still familiar with verbs. After
defining what a verb is, ten students will be asked to write each a verb
in the board. Sentences will be composed out of the given verbs by the
students. From there, students will be asked by the following question:
What if the action had already been done/performed?

C. Teacher Modelling and Guided Practice


The topic on Simple Past Tense will be delivered. A simple past tense
of the verb tells us about: a) events in the past that are now finished; b)
situation in the past; and c) actions in the past. Two kinds of verbs,
regular and irregular verbs will be discussed.
D. Drills
The students will answer the exercises found on the Learner’s Manual
pages 311-312, Grammar Exercises B, C, D, E on a ½ sheet of paper,
crosswise.

E. Assignment
Students will be tasked to do an advance reading on the reading
selection #3-in-1 found on the Learner’s Manual page 312-314.
