A Lesson Plan on Teaching the Short Story The Happiest Boy in the World
For Grade 7 Zircon, Mauretania, Aquamarine, Topaz and Moonstone

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of a 45-minute class discussion, the students will be able to:
a. read the short story The Happiest Boy in the World;
b. express appreciation of the country’s unique culture ; and
c. perform the designated and planned activities

II. SUBJECT MATTER

III. LEARNING RESOURCES


A. Reference

English LM pages 339-342

B. Materials
whiteboard marker, Learner’s Manual, bond paper or construction
paper

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary
The learners’ attendance will be checked. After which, a simple
recapitulation will be done.

B. Motivation
The learners will guess the mystery word on Task 1: Picture Me a
Word. Not all of the letters given as a clue will be used. ANSWER:
different.

C. Silent Reading
The learners will be given 15 minutes to read the short story on pages
339-342. There will be pauses from reading the essay from time to time
to facilitate the questions presented in the text.

D. Discussion
The discussion will take place in between the silent reading.

E. Drill
Using their former groupings, the learners will answer a question that
corresponds to their group number on a ½ sheet of bond paper or
construction paper. This will be done individually.
GROUP 1: If you were Ka Ponso, how would you react if you read the
letter of Julio? Why?
GROUP 2: If you were the boy, how would you feel if somebody
sponsored you to go school? Why?
GROUP 3: If you were the father of the boy, how would you react if
somebody offered a scholarship for your child? Why?
GROUP 4: If you were Julio, would you do the same? Why? Why not?
GROUP 5: What will you do if you are Ka Ponso? Will you grant the
wish? Why? Why not?

V. ASSIGNMENT
As an assignment, the learners will have to do an advance reading on
past perfect tense of the verb and research examples of verbs in its
participle.
