Verb Patterns

Verb + infinitive
tend, afford, fail, hasten, learn, prepare, proceed, seek, strive / arrange, claim, decide, demand,
deserve, expect, pretend, refuse, volunteer, agree, happen, offer, seem, intend, need, ask, plan

hasten: to make something happen sooner or quickly


seek: search
strive: to try very hard to do somethingor to make something happen, especially for along time
against difficultes

inspire, advise, allow, authorize, cause, convince, encourage, instruct, permit, persuade, urge

urge: a strong wish, especially one that is difficult or impossible to control

verb + gerund

keep on: to continue to talk in an annoying way about something
