9) Earth

Atmospheric stratification
Troposphere-0-13km
 Closest layer to the earth’s surface
 Unstable layer: formation of clouds ,rains ,winds ,snow
,changes in humidity and temperature
 Increasing of altitude decrease the air pressure
 Troposphere is heated when the heat is reflected(c02 trap the
heat ) from the earth’s surface, the higher the altitude, the
lower the temperature.
Stratosphere 13-50 km
 Stable:stable for airplane flights
 Important:have ozone layer
 Absorb most of the uv rays from the sun
 The higher the altitude, the higher the temperature and it
can reach 0 degree Celsius at 50 km
 Uv ray harmful to human,it can cause cancer ,as it
comprising of caseinogen
Mesosphere 50-80 km
 The coldest layer( -90 dc) with low temp
 The higher the altitude, the lower the temp
 Mostly of the meteorites burn up at this layer
Thermosphere 80-480km
 This layer is hot as it absorb uv ray from sun
 It can reach 1650 dc
 Has low air pressure
 Also called ionosphere as it contain vharged gas particles, this
particles is important as it will reflect the radio wave back to
the earth
 Aurora,a stream of colourful light that can be observe at earth’s
north and south poles occur at this layer. Aurora is produced as
the interaction occur between charged particles and the
magnetic field and atmospheric gases
Exosphere 480-10000 km
 Become vacuum at about 700 km above earth surface
 The outermost and thin layer
 Contain light gases such as helium and hydrogen
 The layer where the satellite orbits
