Sayongsong is a traditional Filipino steamed rice
cake from Surigao del Norte and other areas of
the Caraga Region of northwestern Mindanao,
where it is known as sarungsong or alisuso. It is
distinctively served in cone-shaped banana
leaves. It is made with equal parts of glutinous rice
and regular rice. It traditionally uses pirurotong, a
native deep purple glutinous rice, which gives it a
striking blue to purple color, but other types of
glutinous rice can also be used. Sayongsong is can

minutes. Roasted peanuts (surigao version) or grated young coconut (Visayas version) are then added and
the whole mixture is ground into a smooth paste known as galapóng. Coconut milk sweetened with sugar
is boiled separately for around 10 minutes then filtered and mixed with the galapóng. The galapóng is
then cooked in a pan while constantly stirring. When it becomes very thick in consistency, a bit
of calamansi juice is spritzed on the mixture. It is then allowed to cool and then poured into greased
banana leaves shaped into a cone. The cones are then steamed for an additional 20 minutes. The dish can
be modified by adding other ingredients, like chocolate or strips of young coconut meat. The texture
of sayongsong is very soft, reminiscent of both kalamay and puto. Sayongsong has a short shelf life and
spoils after around a day, though it can be preserved for another day if chilled and placed in an airtight
container. In Samar, sarungsong can also be cooked in shaved bamboo tubes that are then peeled open to
eat. The dish can be modified by adding other ingredients, like chocolate or strips of young coconut meat.

PERFORMANCE TASK # 3
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19 or coronavirus) was first detected in December 2019 by health
authorities in Wuhan City in the People’s Republic of China. Since that time, more than millions of cases
have been confirmed worldwide, and the virus has spread to more than 114 countries. Spread of the
coronavirus is causing a global emergency. The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has
created a global health crisis that has had a deep impact on the way we perceive our world and our
everyday lives. Not only the rate of contagion and patterns of transmission threatens our sense of agency,
but the safety measures put in place to contain the spread of the virus also require social distancing by
refraining from doing what is inherently human, which is to find solace in the company of others.
In addition, public and community health is get badly affected with the lack of control of COVID-19
pandemic. The novel Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by SARS-CoV-2, has created such
a pandemic scenario where the infection has reached to millions and correspondingly the death toll. Many
developed and developing countries proved that during the urgency of the situation. The system, staff,
strategy, skills and facilities are weak enough to manage this public health crisis and incapable enough to
control the risk of infection. COVID-19 has diffused worldwide so rapidly.
Finally, several testing methods have been developed to diagnose the disease. The standard diagnostic
method is by detection of the virus' nucleic acid by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain
reaction (rRT-PCR), transcription-mediated amplification (TMA), or by reverse transcription loop-
mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) from a nasopharyngeal swab.
Preventive measures include physical or social distancing, quarantining, ventilation of indoor spaces,
covering coughs and sneezes, hand washing, and keeping unwashed hands away from the face. The use of
face masks or coverings has been recommended in public settings to minimise the risk of transmissions.
Several vaccines have been developed and many countries have initiated mass vaccination campaigns.
In conclusion, the effects of the COVID-19 panic has caused a massive changes to our daily lives,
changes that have often happened rapidly and abruptly. Life adjustments often come with a wide range of
experiences and emotions.
Opinion: The COVID-19 pandemic is the defining health crisis of our time
The coronavirus has spread with alarming speed, shaking the foundations of
health systems, economies, and societies around the world. After Covid-19, life
will never be the same again. A paradigm shift will come. That change is the
veritable gauntlet the pandemic has thrown at the face of mankind. Now, the
world confronts an existential challenge that every country on earth and its
peoples must overcome and win.
As our country confronts the coronavirus crisis with a shutdown unseen in living
memory, we're being reminded of some basic truths.
First, we really are all in this together, despite all our differences. The voices
who divide our country into warring tribes do our country a disservice. Shared
sacrifice to solve a common problem, consistent with our values, is the Filipino way. You might even say it's what
makes Philippines great.
Second, sequestered at home with our families — away from the mad dash of social gatherings in the name of social
distancing — we're reminded that they are what really matters. Playing catch in the backyard, reading a book,
talking, cooking, laughing — these are the real joys of life. We should savor the simple things despite whatever fear
we may feel. Because life is short. Yes, social distancing might mean missing out on some fun. But part of the
tradeoff that comes with being a responsible adult is recognizing that sacrificing some self-indulgent fun can open
the door to more joy.
Third, truth matters. Facts matter. And that's another way of saying science matters.
We are always safest when we confront reality and move proactively. But it's easy to be seduced by the desire to
retreat into denial or try to avoid accountability.
One of the other defining challenges of our time — the climate crisis, slower-moving but ultimately just as
destabilizing to society — falls into this category. In both cases we need smart, science-based decision making to
drive government action. And denial will only make things worse.
Confronting Covid-19 is a serious life or death struggle. It is a challenge for our country that requires responsibility
from all our citizens, recognizing that our interdependence is an inescapable fact of life. Overcoming it will not be a
quick fix — it will take time, innovation and sacrifice. But we will get through this.
And in the time that we've been given, we should resolve to learn the right lessons from the coronavirus crisis so that
we can emerge stronger and wiser as a result of all we've experienced
