Competency 001:

The teacher understands human development processes and applies this knowledge to plan instruction
and ongoing assessment that motivate students and are responsive to their developmental characteristics
and needs.

This to me is that not everyone is the same, and that at times you may have to do thing a little different.
You may have to sing and dance for younger kids for example rhyming in order for them to be able to
understand the subject more.

Competency 002:
The teacher understands student diversity and knows how to plan learning experiences and design
assessments that are responsive to differences among students and that promote all students’ learning.

Not all students can comprehend the same learning styles or be on the same page with each other. This
is why it is important to know your students and the strengths and weaknesses. In order for them to be
able to comprehend what is being taught.

Competency 003:
The teacher understands procedures for designing effective and coherent instruction and assessment
based on appropriate learning goals and objectives.

This is very important to understand that all objectives are met and that you are able to reach them with
each and every student. Even if they are all learning different styles.

Competency 004:
The teacher understands learning processes and factors that impact student learning and demonstrates
this knowledge by planning effective, engaging instruction and appropriate assessments.

Lesson plans are very important so that you know and can plan ahead to help make sure that all your
students need are met with each learning style. This will help with origination and a successful classroom.

Competency 005:
The teacher knows how to establish a classroom climate that fosters learning, equity and excellence and
uses this knowledge to create a physical and emotional environment that is safe and productive.

For some students the classroom may be the only place that they feel safe. Knowing that they have a
special place to go or just a very enjoyable environment to learn may be the best factor for them to be
able to comprehend all the learning that they are needing.

Competency 006:
The teacher understands strategies for creating an organized and productive learning environment and
for managing student behavior.

If you are able to keep the majority of your students engaged in fun and active learning experiences this
may help with classroom management and help the students stay more involved so that they are less
likely to mis behave.
Competency 007:

teaching and learning contexts.

No student is the same so you must learn and study your students to see what is the most effective way
in teaching them in order for them to learn.

Competency 008:
The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively engages students in the learning process.

Detailed instructions are very important so that you can give your students every chance to be able to
succeed in the classroom. If you are very vague with your instructions then this may cause problems in
learning and with grades in the future.

Competency 009:
The teacher incorporates the effective use of technology to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate
instruction for all students. In the world we live in now technology is taking over the classroom. This is a
good and ban thing in some instance but with that being said, this can help so many students in different
ways. For example, showing a visual learner a video on how something works you have given him the
best opportunity to learn. This is also a big help with being able to help homebound students.

Competency 010:
The teacher monitors student performance and achievement; provides students with timely, high-quality
feedback; and responds flexibly to promote learning for all students.

The chance for every student to be successful is important. Setting standards high for each one is
important to me so that in the end you are able to praise them for the hard work and that they were able
to meet the standard you set for them. They may not have seen the potential that they really have.
Positive feedback helps keep them on track.

Competency 011:
The teacher understands the importance of family involvement in children’s education and knows how to
interact and communicate effectively with families.

In every best effort to be able to help the child stay on track and succeeded, communication is key so that
all parties involved are aware of everything going on with the student good and bad giving all the chance
to be able to succeed.

Competency 012:
The teacher enhances professional knowledge and skills by effectively interacting with other members of
the educational community and participating in various types of professional activities.

This is a team it takes a village to help raise these students and when each teacher communicates this
can be so helpful. This is where you’re a team comes in to play. You may have that one student that you
cannot reach and a previous teacher has been able to they can share helpful tips to be able to reach
them.
