The purpose of this standard is to specify the average illumination levels in a brewery. Illumination levels as
indicated are required at 1 meter above floor level or in corridors at floor level. In all cases, local rules and
norms are mandatory above this standard.
Reflection factors are key for correct lighting calculations. Reflection factors are pending finishing walls and
floors and shall always be checked. Below reflection factors are only a guideline:
The ratio between the minimum and average illumination level shall be evenly.
NEN-EN-12464-1: Light & Lighting - Lighting Of Work Places - Part 1: Indoor Work Places
NEN-EN-12464-2: Light & Lighting - Lighting Of Work Places - Part 2: Outdoor Work Places
4. COLOR OF LIGHT
2500 – 3500K K Warm white Contrast is very good. Color differences are difficult to distinguish
3500 – 4500K K Neutral white Preferred for breweries and offices.
> 4500 K Cool White Light equivalent to daylight with a large blue spectrum, giving the
light a blue color.
The choice of the lighting color is pending the function, brewery requirements and welfare of the people.
Color temperatures around 4000K is preferred for an optimal working situation since this increase safety
and alertness amongst employees.
Beer is sensitive for ultra violet light. The wavelength of the light spectrum in storage areas for beer shall be
minimal 550nm. For packaging area’s this is not required.
6. LED LIGHTING
A color Rendering Index (CRI) > 80. (For outdoor lighting, CRI > 60).
Daylight dimming in areas with entering daylight.
Motion detection in storage areas and at areas where people are occasionally.
