Julie Hunt
Chief Nursing Officer
Oro Valley Hospital
1551 E Tangerine Rd
Oro Valley, AZ 85755

Dear Julie,

As a recently graduated BSN student looking to begin their career in the field of critical care
nursing, I was extremely excited to come across your opening for an ICU RN position at your hospital.
Critical care nursing is something I have set my sights on since I began nursing school, and my recent
experience as a preceptor in the ICU has solidified my decision to pursue the position. I was made aware
of your opening by my preceptor, Ericka Sheets, and have been keeping my eye on positions at Oro
Valley in order to apply when one opened. Come June, I will have graduated from the University of
Arizona with my BSN degree, and will be taking the NCLEX in order to apply for licensure in the state of
Arizona. Completing my preceptorship within the Oro Valley ICU has allowed me to become familiar
with the staff, operations, and inner workings of your hospital.

As a new grad, I have a lot to learn and become confident in. While some may see this as a
detriment, I prefer to consider it as one of my strengths. I am eager to learn and become a sponge for the
vast amounts of knowledge and skill that would be available to me by working with seasoned nurses and
physicians. I have a strong desire to continually put myself in situations that I can learn from, and I aim to
never become stagnant with my education. I am a detail-oriented individual that thrives in the constantly
changing environment of an ICU setting. During my preceptorship in the ICU, I was able to demonstrate
and effectively perform critical care skills such as titration of vasoactive medications, airway
management of a ventilated patient, and hemodynamic stabilization of patients with Swan-Ganz catheters
and Impella LVAD devices. The ICU position demands attention to detail, unwavering confidence, and
the ability to remain calm and clear headed when situations change. I was able to efficiently act as a part
of the code team during my preceptorship where I performed compressions, administered ACLS
medications, and recorded information for staff in order to successfully manage a code situation.

My experience with complex and dynamic situations does not end with clinical experiences.
During the last 3 years of my college experience, I sat as the Vice President of New Member services for
the Interfraternity Council within FSP at the University of Arizona. I was in charge of organizing and
executing fraternity recruitment, which required me to train, hire, and oversee recruitment counselors as
well as manage the backend duties of CampusDirector in order to process potential new members in our
system. I was able to manage my time while learning a new program, allowing me to create daily
schedules for my counselors and handle any complications that arose.

I believe my ability to be comfortable in new and unstable situations makes me a great fit for this
position. As a Tucson native, I intend to remain in Tucson after graduation. I believe that my skills and
desire to remain in Tucson make me a perfect candidate for the ICU RN position at Oro Valley Hospital. I
appreciate the time you have taken to review my letter and resume, and I look forward to speaking with
you in the near future. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Nicolas Lettera
