The moment of inertia is the measure of the required force to rotate an object. The value of the
moment of inertia can be manipulated by either increasing or decreasing the inertia. By increasing
the radius of the axis of rotation, the moment of inertia increases, thus slowing down the speed
of rotation. The moment of inertia of the area at the centroid increased when the length of the
vertical web is doubled. This are the results taken from the adjustments, Lxx = 11.06, Lyy = 3.99,
and Lzz = 15.04 to Lxx = 64.39, Lyy = 4.91 and Lzz = 69.30. Also comparing the principal moment of
inertia comparing the Mx = 3.99 and My = 11.06 to the doubled vertical web length Mx = 4.91 and
My = 64.39. The structural implication of utilizing the said profile in the aircraft construction is for
us to apply it in determining the centroid, the center of mass of the aircraft. It is also applicable to
the aircraft since it has a center of gravity. With that being said, the moments of inertia, as we
increase the length of an aircraft there are also effects to the turning points of the aircraft we are
constructing. Since centroid and moment of inertia is affected as we adjust the dimensions, this
gives us the idea to properly help us construct an aircraft. This is important so that we could have
an idea if the aircraft we are currently constructing is airworthy, right, and effective. Proper
measurements are one of the important things in effectively constructing an aircraft. In the given
example we have seen that when the length of the vertical web is doubled the moment of inertia
increases to a higher value. Therefore, we can conclude that as we increase the vertical web the
moment of inertia increases.
