Appreciation

We would like to express our gratitude to our lecturer Madam Zummy Dahria Binti Basri for
this opportunity. We have learn more knowledge about the current safety practice related
problem and strategies to reduce the risk.

We also would like to thank Library Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah to conduct our Case Study
3 and survey. Furthermore, we would like to thank the Occupation Safety and Health official
websites to give us information about our survey.

Lastly, we would like to thank to our members of our group because they have done a lot of
hardwork to succeed this task. Thanks.
Inroduction

All parties are looking forward to the mandatory body of responsibility and accountability for
monitoring and enforcing the safety of regulations and good health and safety practices
especially on site construction.

Now, many construction areas are underway encompassing the development of public and
private infrastructure. Every day the tragedy that takes place at the site's construction site will
be the headlines in the newspaper that gives the public a hint.

It is recommended that emphasis be given not only to all project developments in order to
always adhere to and practice good codes of health and safety at construction sites but
monitoring should be implemented and enforced on all site projects. This is because it
involves security workers and the public that can cause bodily injury and loss of life.

Existing law enforcement to overcome the tragedy from happening at the construction site
should be strictly enforced so that those involved will be more accountable for their
responsibility to safeguard the safety of the workers and the public.
Suggestion Of Solution Based On OSHA

In construction site, there‘s so many risk workers have to face.So to avoid from that things
happen they have to wearing safety equipment.First, they have to wear safety boots to protect
them from stepped the sharp things such as nail, zink and others.Secondly, they have to
wearing safety shirt to avoid fall from height place.Next, the workers have to using the glove
to touch anythings harm like switch on the main switch. From that we can minimize
percentage to get electric shock. In a construction site, the workers have to take it with smelly
and poisoning chemical. To run from it,workers can put on mask on face. The main solution is
they have to get some knowledge about priority to protect theirself from hazardous.
Conclusion

For the conclusion,as the workers they have to attend the seminar about how to improve our
skills in using site equipment. So that we can decrease risk at construction site. Then, they have
to be out spoken and tell their problem to employee. For the last every one have to get this
education about OSH because we can predict when, where or what kind of hazard can happen.

Types of Injuries on Construction Sites

There are many different risks that construction workers face on the job. The Occupational
Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has identified the top causes of injuries on
construction sites, which include:

 Falling from heights – A worker may fall from a building, scaffolding or piece of
machinery to the ground below. Workers can also fall into holes or ditches on construction
sites.
 Trench collapse – When a trench collapses, a worker’s air supply can be cut off, and
the worker can be buried alive or suffer crushing injuries.
 Collapsed scaffolding – OSHA has strict rules to ensure the safety and stability of
scaffolding, but things can still go wrong, causing a worker to plunge to his death or to fall
and sustain serious injury.
 Electric shock and or arc flash/blast – Working with generators, power tools,
machinery and electrical wiring all put construction workers at risk of suffering electrical
burns.
 Failure to use appropriate protective gear – Hardhats, safety glasses and other
personal protective equipment should always be worn on construction sites to prevent
injury.
 Repetitive motion injuries – When the body is repeatedly asked to do the same things
again and again, the muscles and soft tissues can become worn and damaged, limiting
mobility and causing pain.

In addition to these top injury causes, workers on a construction site could also be hurt as a
result of traffic accidents, a ladder’s collapse, malfunctioning tools or equipment, errors made
by other workers and accidents with tools or machinery.

Workers on construction sites who experience these or other accidents can sustain a variety of
serious injuries, including:

 Burns
 Electrocution
 Eye injury, including vision impairment or blindness
 Broken bones
 Knee and ankle injury
 Neck, shoulder or back injury
 Spinal cord injury, including damage that can cause paraplegia or quadriplegia
 Illnesses caused by toxic chemical exposure
 Head injury and/or brain injury.
In the most tragic of cases, the injuries sustained by the construction worker will be fatal.

KUALA LUMPUR: Two construction workers were crushed to death when concrete slabs
on the 15th floor of a building they were working on at Jalan Dewan Sultan Sulaiman here
collapsed on Thursday.

The accident occurred at 2am while six employees were working on the formwork structure
of the building’s 15th floor.

One man died on the spot, while the other was confirmed dead at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
An immediate stop-work notice was issued after a team of officials from the Department of
Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) conducted an investigation at the accident site on
Thursday.

It is understood that legal action will be taken if any violation of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act (1994) and Factories and Machinery Act (1967) had occurred.

“It is the responsibility of employers and workers to ensure safety and health at the work
place,” the Human Resources Ministry said in a statement last night. – BERNAMA
