Dear Editor,

I’m senior three student Li Ming from Ming Qi High School. Lately I’ve read a passage about
“pressure” on your English newspaper. It mentions that moderate pressure would play a positive
role in our study or work. I couldn’t agree more to your opinion.
From my perspective, a certain amount of pressure is indispensable to provide motivation in
our life. At least for me, every time I get troubled in unfinished projects and failures, it often springs
up in my mind that “pressure propels our progress and contributes to our success.”
In senior one I participated in an English oral competition with many other excellent
contestants. All of us were required to make a prepared theme speech and an impromptu speech in
the competition. During my one month’s preparation, I was under great pressure as English speaking
is my weakness compared to reading and writing. A million times I felt so frustrated that I almost
gave it up with regrets. My English teacher, however, encouraged me, “You should face up to the
pressure positively and turn it into power. It may be the key to your success.” These magical words
brought back my confidence and hope, inspiring me to view pressure rightly and prepare for my
competition with more concentration. To my amazement, I did a better job than expected and won
third prize in the competition.
It is obvious that pressure is an inevitable part in our daily life in this competitive society. Too
much pressure may lead to poor performance and bad health while a proper amount of pressure can
be important “energy” in our study and work. As long as we treat it correctly, relieve it properly and
turn it into power, it won’t be a formidable obstacle that lies ahead our path to success.

Yours sincerely,
Li Ming
