1 Course Objectives:
The objective of this course is to equip the students with a comprehensive knowledge of the
Intellectual Property Rights, Foreign exchange management laws of India and international
dispute resolution on commercial and mercantile transactions and the global regulatory
instruments.

2 Prerequisites:
Students are expected to have primary/elementary knowledge about different aspects of
Intellectual property rights, Foreign exchange regulation and management laws, International
economic institutions.
3 Course Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to -
 Have better understanding of Intellectual property rights and the concepts related
thereto.
 Analyze the law relating to Patents, Trademarks and Copyrights.
 Apply and implement the provisions of IP to the practical cases and situations.
 Critically evaluate the legislations as to their applicability in the commercial world.

4 Module I Governing Laws and General Principles 25% weightage


 Concept & kinds of intellectual property;
 Various laws of India regulating intellectual property;
 Violation of intellectual property rights & remedies for their violation;
 Other related matters; leading cases.

5 Module II Patents Law 25% weightage

 Patents Act 1970 & its 2005 amendment;


 Concept of patents; patentable & non-patentable products; rights & obligations of
patentees;
 Patent registration procedure, infringement & remedies; regulatory & penal
provisions;
 Other related provisions; leading cases
6 Module III Trademarks and Copyright 25% weightage

 Trademarks Act 1999 & new Trademark Rules of 2017: registration; infringement &
remedies; other related matters.
 Copyright Act 1957: general provisions; rights & remedies, leading cases

7 Module IV Foreign Exchange and International Business 25% weightage

 FERA & FEMA Act of India: objects, general provisions & leading cases;

 GATT & WTO: history, objects, functions, performance, impact on business


activities.

8 Pedagogy for Course Delivery:


The course will be taught using theory and case laws based method.
