3rd year, Department of Mining Engineering

DATE
30/06/2020
In one month respected Sushil Bhandari sir taught us
about the theoretical as well as the software approach of
the drilling and blasting methods.

THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE

Sushil Bhandari sir co -founder of mine excellence and his

staff always helped us with their constant supervision
guidance, motivation and support at every stage of this
course.
Sir taught us about the blast design objectives, blast
geometry. He told us the importance of blast parameters
like burden, spacing, cratering, delay timings, delay
sequences, charge distribution, sub drilling. He educated
us with important concept of mining like back break
,fragmentation, optimum fragmentation, fragmentation
process.
Overall he covered all the necessary topics which are
required for us to be a good mining engineer and give us
the deep knowledge in the subject. He taught us about the
blasting agents their compositions, type of explosives.
He gives us vital information about ground vibration its
measurement and its control measures. He gave us
important information about the fly rocks its prediction
and its control. He taught us about the initiation
sequences, electric detonators and non electric
detonator.
Then further he told us about the fines and dust caused by
the blasting. How the fines are generated, its control.
How can we tailor all the blasting parameters to control
the fines and dust produced by it. He Introduces us to
many softwares used in the dust plume measurement.
Then Sanjay sir told us about the control blasting like trim
blasting, pre splitting, muffle blasting, use of delay system.
So overall it is a very good experience to learn from
respected Sushil Bhandari sir and it will be very fruitful for
our careers.
INTRODUCTION TO SOFTWARE

I have introduced to the software approach of drilling and

blasting by the mine excellence under the guidance of
respected Sushil Bhandari sir.
The list of softwares which i have learnt in this month is
given below-

1. BLADES

Based on desired blasting inputs such as face co-ordinates,

hole diameter, pattern layout, face rock characteristics
and location, face profile, hole diameter, pattern layout,
desired fragmentation size, explosives and initiating
devices, environmental constraints, Blades calculates
blast plan parameters, explosives charge distribution,
initiation timing and sequence, results in terms of rock
breakage and fragment size distribution.
2. BLAST MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (BIMS)

Blast Information Management System (BIMS) provides

information to meet the strategic and operational needs for
planning, controlling and decision making for optimizing
mining operations.

• BIMS provides methods to store, manage, document and

retrieve drill and blast related information.
• The system stores blast details, actual blast parameters,
blast pattern, face profile, explosive consumption, charging
details, vibration records, photos and videos of the blast.
Readily available past data in a logical format and blasting
data analysis tools are the key features of the BIMS.
3.Data Analysis in BIMS
The above figures represent an analytical stacked graph of all the costs
involved in blasting operations. The explosive, initiating, drilling and man
power costs are indicated in different color codes.

This clustered graph represents status of burden and spacing for

the selected year. A detailed date wise tend may be obtained by
selecting the month in the X-axis of the graph.
This analytical report displays both total explosive consumption
and powder factor using both a bar and line graph. The explosive
consumption is measured in kg.

This is analytical graph for environment performance. It depicts the

intensity of airblast (air vibration), ppv(point to point vibration) and
flyrock over a period of date, month and year.
4.SMART BLASTING APP

Smart Blasting App is an end-to-end technology framework for

collecting data in the field and then transferring it to server or
desktop computer. The S Blasting App also includes environmental
predictors, thus analyzing the environmental hazards using the
filled data before a blast, thus improving operational efficiency.

5.DRIMS Drill Logs

MineExcellence Drilling a cloud and mobile based Platform to store,
manage, document and retrieve drill related information. Update
the different strata and loading information at different depths via
mobile and tablet.

Daily Electronic Plod Reports / Daily Activity

• Pre-Start Checklist
• Drill Logs
• Safety Checklists

Optimize your drilling operations by easy to use technology – It

helps increase visibility and efficiency of all aspects of your drilling
operations.
So these are all the details of software which I have learnt. It is a
very knowledgeable experience to learn about these technologies.

CONCLUSION
I have reached to the conclusion that use of these softwares
provide modernization to mining industry and more efficient and
more safer mining can be done.
