CULTURAL HERITAGE CUM INTERPRETATION

CENTRE-ROHINI DELHI.
INTRODUCTION
India is called unite country with diversities which ranges from the snow-
capped mountains to the sun washed beaches, crispy old bazaars to
designer boutiques, serene temples to spirited festivals, tumbledown rural
villages to techno ability urban hubs this country is the planet’s most
multidimensional country. India is a country where culture echoes, tradition
speaks, beauty captivates and diversity delights. India is a vivid of landscapes
with significant historical sites and royal cities, mountains, colorful people
who are rich in culture and festivities. To gather these all phenomenal
diversities at one place and to spread the essence of our rich Indian culture,
we have cultural centers at various regions in which through arts,
exhibitions, dramas, theaters we describes different cultures of India.
Cultural center also displays the cultures around the globe, through various
forms .

 What is cultural centre:-Cultural centre is an organisation, building or


complex that promotes culture and arts .Cultural centre can be
neighbourhood community art organisation, private facilities,
government sponsored .
 A interpretation centre is an institution for dissemination of
knowledge of natural or cultural heritage, these are located in
connection to culture, historic or natural site. INTERPRETATION
CENTRE are a kind of museum. The interpretation centre use
different mean of communications to enhance the understanding
of heritage.
 Heritage is the best expression of the cultural identity of the
community.
 Cultural include tangible culture(such as building, monument,
landscape, books, work of art etc) and intangible(such as tradition,
culture, art etc).

AIM
Aim is to design the cultural heritage.

To design a contemporary cultural heritage with an Indian appeal and which


can be related by Indians as well as people coming from abroad.

OBJECTIVE
 To create a place for social and public gathering.

 To design a centre which meets international standards with state of


art acoustic, lightening, connectivity and ergonomic seating.

 To create a venue for exhibition and cultural interactions.

 To create interactive spaces and landscaping to generate public


interest.

NEED OF PROJECT
City of Delhi attracts thousands of tourists every year from all over the world
because of the heritage status. So there is an urgent requirement of the
cultural heritage in the city which could depict the mythology and the rich
cultural heritage of the city and India for which it is famous for.

To remind people about their culture, traditions, value etc.

ABOUT THE PROJECT


THE PROPOSED CENTRE WILL HAVE FIVE COMPONENTS.

 Centre for visual art: Will have a contemporary art gallery, sculpture
gallery, workshop area, ancillary area etc.

 Centre for performing art and recreational area: To comprise


auditorium, rehearsal room, cinematography room, recording room,
seminar rooms, conference halls, spa, indoor sport facility, aerobic
halls, swimming pool etc.

 Administration and library block: It will have childrens library, reading


rooms, interactive audio video spaces and administration office .

 Convention centre: To house an auditorium, business centre, seminar


rooms, meeting rooms, conference rooms, multi-purpose room,
restaurant etc.

 Residential area: Will have guest room, suites , kitchen, restaurant.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION


 To evolve a design with forms and spaces with distinct architectural
characteristics focusing on space utilization and functions. This project
deals with the design which is well adoptable in term of typology,
function and climatic conditions.
 The project will be design oriented.

 The thesis topic would help me explore the spaces required for artists
and craftmen to practice their crafts.

 It would help me understand social and cultural setting of the region


and explore the implementation of cultural context on building design.

 It would allow me greater freedom in form and space as many of the


spaces to be designed would be flexible nature.

ABOUT THE SITE


Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is planning to construct a new cultural
centre, similar to Indian Habitat Centre (IHC) and Indian International
Centre (IIC) .

The capital will soon get four more


socio- cultural centres. These are being built by the Delhi Development
Authority (DDA) across four zones in the city- north, south, east, west.
“We want more such cultural hubs in the city because the existing ones,
such as the Indian Habitat Centre and India International Centre, are all
located in south or central Delhi” said a senior DDA official.

DDA said it will also hold discussions with similar institutions already
functioning in the city, like the National School of Drama, Sangeet Natak
Academy, Sahitya Kala Academy and other centres for performing arts for
their inputs in this regard.

The centre in Rohini, will be spread over approx 10acre and is envisaged as
the cultural centre of the part of the capital which will center the social need
of the local populace.

As per the master plan delhi 2021 there would be a cultural centre for every
1million people.

According to the officials, tendering is in process and consultants are being hired by DDA. As per DDA,
the total estimated cost of the project is around Rs 250 crore.

Rohini sub-city was a part of urban expansion programme, the first area that
was developed as a part of DDA’ strategy of urban expansion.

1.1 million People expected to live- MPD2021

It is frequently referred to as the “model township” and is through to be the


most organized and cleanest of all part of Delhi and nearby township.

PLANNING
Rohini project is planned with 12 zones.

The central square must act as the commercial zone of the entire sub-city.
LOCATION AND CONNECTIVITY
The sub-city is located on North- West Delhi.

Rohini has three stations on the Red Line of Delhi Metro Line 1, which
connects from Dilshad Garden, Kashmere Gate to Rohini East, Rohini West
and Rithala metro station making it one of Delhi Metro's major hubs.

Rohini also has one station on the Yellow Line of Delhi Metro, Rohini Sector
18,19 which connects from Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre Gurgaon
making it very well connected to all major places like Connaught Place, Saket
and Cyber Hub.

SWOT ANALYSIS
 STRENGTH:-
 Location: the sites lie in Sector 10, Rohini which is almost the centre
of Rohini
 Accessibility: The site is accessible from 2 primary roads.
 WEEKNESS:-
 Untreated sewage creates stench corridor and gives rise to water
born diseases.
 OPPORTUNITIES:-
 The canal can be revitalized and green belt along it can be used as an
open recreational space thus, inviting people and creating more social
space.
 THREATS:-
 A high tension line passes through the site, restricting the built mass.
