ROLE OF MIS in Nishat textile Mills:

Introduction:
Nishat Mills Limited is the flagship company of Nishat Group. It was established in 1951. It is
one of the most modern, largest vertically integrated textile companies in Pakistan. ...
The Company's production facilities comprise of spinning, weaving, processing, stitching and
power generation.

Textile and clothing sector are regarding as the engine of growth for many developing countries
in Asia. Now a day’s information technology is playing vital role in business community. It
possesses a high potential for changing the complete way of business and optimizing the
complete process by satisfying the customer needs with easy handle and managing the supply
chain between customer and business. Using IT businesses are now creating a strong impact on
the global market, within a short span of time.
This study is about growing importance of IT in garment industry and how the technology is
benefiting this business by conducting SWOT analysis.

Operations in textile companies:

operations include many different tasks performed by employees, it includes designing,
selecting, manufacturing cutting, sewing, managing inventory, making payments and finally
make it available in market to satisfy customer needs. These complex time-consuming functions
are made easier to perform in less time and cost as compared to previous production
processes.

SWOT is a practice which helps to analyses the internal and external environments of an
organization through the classification and judgement of its Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities, and Threats.

Weakness and strength of textile before the implication of

information technology:
Labor Productivity:
Labor productivity was low due to the lack of training and advance. so as to make them more
efficient and with lower wastage of resources, appropriate training of employees for using
advance technology is necessary. In China an average 70 hours of training are given to labor to
enhance their expertise.
Poor Infrastructure:
The important resources and infrastructure, such as adequate of supply of water, continuous
supply of electricity and gas, efficient logistics and transportation, raw material supply are all
basic requirements for the development of an industrial base. However, on the other hand, the
industry is faced with rising charges of the energy sector, which increases the cost of
production, making it difficult to compete with the other regional rivals.
Poor quality standards:
The industry can generate more profit by adding more value to the product, as value can be
measured in terms of quality, increased per unit price, etc. Pakistan’s textile industry should
focus on latest material handling techniques and should train workers. The inability to timely
modernize the equipment, machinery and labor has led to the decline of Pakistani textile and
garment competitiveness.
Nowadays, customers are very systematic in their work and the expect the same
professionalism from their vendors. Unfortunately, we lack this capability and are not
competent to struggle in the international business, thus losing many opportunities.

On the other hand, supply chain management is rarely implemented. We are disorganized,
disconnected and distorted. Delayed delivery of export orders result increase in cost due to
fines by the buyers and at times losing business altogether due to the breach the order
contract.
Long procurement time:
In a traditional textile industry, procurement process takes a much longer time. So, the retailers
need to forecast demand and identify consumption trends at a much earlier stage. Lack of
clarity about future can either result in early stock out, delay or overstock.

Strengths:
1.Labor:
Cheap labor has always been the backbone of the economy of Pakistan.  Cheap and ample
supply of labor strengthens the industrial and agriculture sector of the country. Around 39% of
the labor force works in the textile sector. As Karl Marx said, that we have to use the “army of
labor” present in the country for productive means. Thus, cheap and abundant labor means low
cost of production.
Opportunities and threats after the implication of information
technology:
 Marketing:
Marketing is about advertisement, website development and maintenance, communication
campaign planning and development. IT is playing vital role in performing these activities by
efficiently advertising and communicating with customers.

Collaboration with foreign companies:
By making partners with the foreign companies, we will be able to learn a lot from them in
terms system orientation, supply chain and it would be feasible to import latest technology. We
can also reduce our costs, comply with the international standards, add value to our products,
easiness in marketing our products in different foreign regions, improved labor and thus
catching up with our regional competitors.

Re-engineering of production system
Information technology has a crucial role in manufacturing sector. Acquiring state of the art
machinery is though very much expensive, but a very fruitful and necessary measure to stay
competitive in the long run. It is the level of trust, the exporter builds with its customers by
giving them flawless products, made on state-of-the-art machinery. Once this trust is
developed, there is no other way than any unforeseen exception, that you may lose a customer
to another competitor. Therefore, its highly recommended to produce with great efficiency,
minimizing the wastage of the raw material, energy resources and thus reducing the cost of
production.

Producing high value products:

Using Information technology, we produce high quality products that are more reliable and
create customer value. With the help of mass production per unit cost has been decreased, that
is not only valuable for companies but also for the end user.

Reducing the cost of business.

Information technology also helped to reduce cost of business as the per unit cost of
production will be reduced by producing things in bulk. We have to control unnecessary costs if
we have to survive in the middle of the two giants (India and china) of the textile sector in the
world.

Step into the global trade:

It is a fact that a company going global is opened with lot of opportunities as well as threats in
terms of competition, changing trends, and other technological changes. It necessitates
managing every kind of information efficiently and at much faster speed.
Threats:
New competitors:
Pakistan is facing new competitors in textile sector such as Bangladesh, Vietnam and Turkey.
Though we cannot avoid competition but we can always stay ahead of them by reforming our
strategies and educating our entrepreneurs so as to move one step forward in every aspect.

Phasing out of quota system:

There is a threat by the Chinese and Indian manufacturers to gain most of the market share.
We have high costs, low labor productivity and inefficient production processes due to lack of
advance IT system.

Supply chain competency:

With the urge for getting global, apparel and textiles are facing hurdles of inefficiency in
carrying out various processes involved right from designing, developing samples, getting
approval, manufacturing, dispatching to payment procedures.

The trajectory of development of Information Technology has intersected every application in

textile industry. From enhancing performance of textile manufacturing and tighter process
control, IT has inserted intelligence at every node of textile supply chain.

Technology as a Vulnerability:
For all the wonders that new technologies bring to the manufacturing sector, high-tech
operations are subject to some of the same security drawbacks as any computer system.
Hackers can surreptitiously interact with manufacturing technology to steal company secrets –
or worse, interfere with normal operations.

Enjoy the Benefits:

 IT enhances the method of analyzing the Demand and Supply
 Helps in designing as well as developing samples
 Online promotion of products
 Facilitates the process of manufacturing and dispatching
 Strongly helps in human resource management

IT tools and apparel software system that are popular in textile industry:
 Computer aided design and computer aided management system for pattern making
and plotting etc.
 Online fit approval
 Computerized cutting machine
 ERP for inventory management, tracking, production management
 Preparation of MIS reports
 Voice chatting, communication through internet
 Semi-automated and fully automated machines

Strategies of NTM:
 “Try to minimize the cost of production and the purchase of latest machinery.
 To improve the quality and production is the main focus area.
 Nishat has to establish its name in new markets be creating specialized fabrics
designs by providing excellent customers service and quality as well.
 In some areas of the industry old methods have to remove by the latest ones.

Conclusion:
Modern manufacturing is a marvel of human ingenuity and technological progress. computers
monitor hundreds of parameters to ensure manufacturing excellence; workers become steadily
more productive as they learn to increase their output. The positive impacts of manufacturing
technology are indisputable. Many of the companies are using the technological power to add
value to their business.
