Designated Driver Program 1

Iota-Alpha Chapter
Sigma Pi Fraternity, International
Designated Driver Program
I. Purpose:
The purpose of this program is to create a list of designated drivers for each semester. There is to
be a posted list of designated drivers for every weekend in a semester and to have at least two (2)
designated drivers each for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. This program does not cover
other days of the week or holidays when the dorms are closed, unless agreed upon by the
Fraternity.
II. Risk Management Chair:
The Risk Management Chair will be in charge of this program. He will be responsible for:
 Creating the list at the beginning of the fall semester for the following year
 Keeping the designated driver phones when not in use
• It is also his duty to make sure designated driver phones are charged
• Ensuring the Treasurer has paid phone bills
• Any problems with phones are dealt with accordingly
III. Designated Drivers:
The designated drivers are to be available for any member of the Iota-Alpha Chapter of Sigma Pi
to call when in need of transportation. All members shall be instructed of what their duties are
and what is expected of them.
The designated drivers will:
 Be SOBER!
• Failure to comply with this will result in punishment to be determined by the Judicial
Board
 Have a current, unrestricted license and insurance
 Ensure the safe transport of members to their destinations, following all traffic laws
 Be on call from 9p.m. to 3a.m unless otherwise instructed.
• Phones are to be turned on by 9p.m. and turned off no earlier than 3a.m.
 Report any problems to the Risk Management Chairman and/or any member of the Executive
Council
 Only make outgoing calls on the provided phones to tell members their ride is outside or to
obtain information on their location
IV. Setup:
The assignment of designated drivers will be done by the Risk Management Chairman at the
beginning of each semester. It is the duty of the Risk Management Chairman to obtain an up-to-
date roster provided by the Secretary and manually remove the people who have no car, an

invalid driver’s license, or are otherwise unable to execute the task. These members will be
placed on a list to perform other service duties for the fraternity.
A. Creation:
Use Excel program “Sigma Pi Designated Drivers List”.
B. In case of Insufficient Members:
If the number of members is insufficient to have six (6) drivers every weekend then the
Judicial Board may assign designated driving as a punishment. Volunteers will also be
sought to fill the void.
C. In case of Excess of Members:
If the number of members is more than is necessary to have six (6) drivers every weekend
than anyone who is not assigned a weekend may then be used at parties to increase the
number of designated drivers to four (4) for the night of the party.
D. Last Step:
The last step is to present the list to the Fraternity and give all members one week to
inform the Risk Management Chairman of any scheduling conflicts. The Risk Management
Chairman is to work out any problems and send a finalized copy to the Secretary and to the
rest of the Fraternity.
