in addressing water and development challenges.

As a water education institute developing capacity in water-

related topics, one of our most important goals is ‘Clean water
and sanitation’. However, water cannot be seen in isolation
and is often a precondition for other goals. Therefore, together
with our partners, we are also contributing to other SDGs,
such as: zero hunger, gender equality, affordable and clean
energy, and sustainable cities and communities, among others.

By introducing new monitoring techniques and developing

innovative solutions, we will help to achieve ambitious goals
such as a 25% increase in water productivity by 2030.
IHE Delft’s main focus as we approach 2030 will be to further
strengthen the connections between our different project
activities. We will do this by emphasizing our inter- and
transdisciplinary approach in all our activities. We are looking

forward to doing this together with our partners and we
welcome any ideas for collaborative initiatives.

global water alumni network
I am writing shortly after WHO and UNICEF launched the Hand Hygiene for All Global
Initiative which aims to implement global recommendations on hand hygiene, to prevent and
control the COVID-19 pandemic and work to ensure lasting infrastructure and healthy behaviour.
It calls on countries to lay out comprehensive roadmaps to ensure hand hygiene is a mainstay
beyond the pandemic.

As a member of both the UN and UNESCO Water Family, the role of IHE Delft in educating
water professionals throughout the world, is increasingly vital. Add to the global health
problems the already existing water issues and climate crisis and it becomes evident that the
need for a well-qualified workforce in the fields related to water is bigger than ever.

We provide our education in many sizes and formats to cater to the diverse needs of our
students: long term, short term, full-time, part-time, on-campus and online. Now, in particular,
blended learning seems the way forward, especially where parts of the curriculum can be
followed online, in combination with a strong face-to-face component.

In response to the changing external environment and diversification of educational

demands from water sector professionals, IHE Delft is currently working on redesigning its
MSc programmes. Our ambition for 2022 and beyond is to offer one programme of 12 months
for practising water professionals and one of 24 months for those wishing to pursue a PhD
or a more academic career. More information will be announced on our website.

When we meet alumni, following their studies at IHE Delft, they often use the word
'transformation' when describing the impact of their experience at our Institute. They mean
much more than improving their career prospects or chance of promotion. The international
environment that the Institute provides, learning from peer students, the world-class academic
staff and the vibrant nature of IHE Delft, all make it an unforgettable, positive experience.

We invite you to come and join us in the urgent quest to address the current water issues,
including those exacerbated by COVID-19. If helping to solve global water challenges excites
you, come and join our dynamic, international community at IHE Delft to jointly build a
better, safer and more sustainable future.

Professor Eddy Moors, Rector

On 23 April 2020, for the first time ever, the graduation ceremony was held online due to distancing measures taken to

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are important and
ambitious goals that keep us at IHE Delft focused on our role

in addressing water and development challenges.
