discuss/provide ways that the conflict can be resolved in a proper

 Projector Stand
RESOURCES
 Speakers
 Classroom
 Copies of comic strip

FOCUS  Students will play a quick game of TELEPHONE

o I will give the first person a freeze and they will pass it
along until the last person in class receives it.
o Then I will ask the last student what phrase they heard.
Then I will review my phrase.
o We will discuss how my phrase was possibly changed
 Then we will begin the discussion of girl talk and social media
and how rumors begin.
INSTRUCTIONAL  This girl talk will mainly focus on social media instead of how our body
changes
STEPS
 We will talk about the do’s and don’ts on social media.
o And what can occur if there is a misuse of social media.
 How police can potentially get involved
 How it can damage the image of the individual who
misused social media
 I will provide to them my perspective as a Coach as well as my
perspective as an athlete.
 We will have High School Panel join us to share their experience.
o We will encourage students to ask questions if they have any
and not to be afraid.
Comic Strip
 Towards the end of the class students will receive a comic strip.
 They will be told to find the do’s and don’ts
 Once they have found the do’s and don’ts, they will write down at
least five bullet points of how to handle the situation PROPERLY
 Once everybody has their five bullet points, they will turn the comic
strip upside down we will begin our discussion.
*During this time, I will be able to check their understanding on why we
shouldn’t misuse social media.
 We will close out by letting them know why we were discussing this.
o For example, it has been an issue with his grade level during
this time.
o We love and care and want them to succeed.
o We also want to keep them safe I want them to use safe
practice on social media
CLOSURE I will reveal to them that we have created an anonymous box
 If they have any questions or need any help they can put in a note in
the box and feel comfortable
 They don’t have to put their name on the note
Technology Reflection:
This is a lesson that includes technology (phone, iPad, computer, etc.) I would
like to let them know how they can use it properly. I will tell them that I
created the comic strip using an application on my computer. I will advise
them how I am using it for educational purposes. I will let them know that they
can veer away from negativity on social media. They can use social media for
educational purposes as well. For example, using it to learn new recipes, new
workouts, or ways to train your dog.

REFLECTION  Students enjoyed the game of Telephone

o The game really put it into perspective how rumors can start
 They enjoyed the comic strip because they had to use higher level
thinking
 My students were comfortable with asking questions to the HS panel
o They were engaged with their experience
*One modification I would like for this lesson would be teaching it at the
beginning of the year.
