Business Letter – Writing Task

Context:

Last week, you took part of a meeting where important decisions with regard to expanding
the current market and seeking overseas partnerships were made. Your immediate
superior has requested you write a formal business letter to various potential customers
with whom a first contact was made at the trade fairs held in Europe and Asia.

The letter must contain the following:

Form:

A formal style
Three paragraphs: introduction, main points, conclusion
Appropriate, where necessary, linking words and phrases to connect your ideas (e.g.
however, although, also, as a consequence, as a result, therefore, etc.)
Between 180- 200 words

Content:

Introduce yourself on behalf of the company


Express interest in their company
Summarize your company’s activities and performance (past and present success in
existing markets, main partners, brief details of the type of product/ service you offer/
provide)
Suggest how your companies could cooperate and do business together
Propose a convenient time and place for a telephone call, video conference or face-to
face meeting or invite them to visit you
Thank them for their time and attention and provide contact information
