Procedure:

The experiment was prepared for the small cyclone, C1 operation. The empty feed
container, F1 was weighed separately along with the dust hopper, H1. The 50g of sample was
weighed and slowly poured into the feed container, F1. Then, the air compressor was
connected to the feed container with the provided tubing and the valve, V7 was ensured to be
initially closed. Futhermore, the feed container then was attached to the holder and
approximately left about 0.5cm to 1.0cm gap between the feed container, F1. So that, the feed
container’s outlet was just outside the inlet piping of the small cyclone. The outlet of the dust
filter was cleaned. All the items and the connection between the cyclone were tightened and
assembled properly before the experiment started. The valves that mention in the Table 2 were
set as based on the specific cyclone. The main switch of the cyclone was switched on and the
air blower was also turned on. Next, the air blower speed was adjusted until the DPI O1 was 1.5
inchH2O. The air compressor then was switched on and the pressure regulator was regulated to
1 Bar.

After that, the valve for C1 = V7 or C2 =V6 was slowly opened until the boiling
phenomena was observed. The readings of the pressure that drop across the cyclone and the
flow rate of air were collected. The experiment was ran until the powder was completely
finished. The feeder was lightly tap whenever the powder was stuck. The compressor and the
air blower were switched off after the experiment was completed. The dust sample that left
inside the cyclone was cleaned off by gently using the air compressor. The feed container, F1
was untouched along with the dust hopper, H1 and weighed them separately. Then, the
collection efficiency of the cyclone was determined by weighing the sample loaded and
collected. The experiment was repeated by using the big cyclone, C2, feed container, F2 and
dust hopper, H2. All the valves including V1, V3, V4 and V5 were fully closed.
