Using this file
You are able to print and photocopy these pages for your
non-commercial classroom and home use.

Learning to add numbers requires a good deal of repetition – engaging in fun activities is a
good way to make this repetition motivating!

This activity will be very effective for a small group of students to play, after they are confident
with the concept of addition and are ready to learn some addition-fact strategies like the ‘dou-
bles’ and ‘near doubles’ strategy.

You will need to print, laminate and cut these cards to use them with a dry-erase marker.

A recording worksheet has been provided.

Teaching Tips: Near Double Neighbors

Equipment
Near Double Neighbors cards
Dry Erase (whiteboard) markers

Purpose

Students will use a known double to work out a ‘near double’ (adding one more than
the answer for the double).

How to play:

This game is for an individual student or a small group of players.

Each player has a game card and one whiteboard/dry-erase marker.

Students use the double fact to help solve the near double in the house next to the
double.

Once completed, the student may also record their work on the recording page.
