RADIO BROADCASTING
● Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves
intended to reach a wide audience.
● In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in
satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the
listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (radio).
● Radio stations broadcast with several different types of modulation: AM radio stations transmit in AM
(amplitude modulation), FM radio stations transmit in FM (frequency modulation), which are older
analog audio standards, while newer digital radio stations transmit in several digital audio standards:
DAB (digital audio broadcasting), HD radio, DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale). Television broadcasting is a
separate service which also uses radio frequencies to broadcast television (video) signals.
ITU definition
The International Telecommunications Union, defines a radio (communication) station as - “one or more
transmitters or receivers or a combination of transmitters and receivers, including the accessory equipment,
necessary at one location for carrying on a radio communication service, or the radio astronomy service. Each
station shall be classified by the service in which it operates permanently or temporarily”.
by:
● Absorbing echoes, harsh noises, excess vibrations and
other noises that could interfere with the quality of your
broadcast
● Preventing outside noise from mixing with your sound
or distracting you
● Offering privacy, so you can record without calling
attention to yourself
● Each of these studios are planned with high noise insulation precautions to limit any air-borne or
impact sound transmission from the internal and external noise sources.
● A large sound transmission loss of sound produced within the studio is also required to attain a
quiet ambient acoustic environment between it and its neighbouring spaces.
For Radio Studio
● Announcer’s Booth : for news cast, narration, commentries, etc.
● Area needed ~ 14m² ; R. T. ~ 0.32 sec.
● Talk and discussion : space needed for 2-3 person. Area needed ~ 47m²
● Drama and music : space for 8-10 people and additional space for movement of actors.
Area needed ~ 140 to 370
MATERIALS
Basically foam, fabric, cotton, wood and other materials are
used in making different types of soundproofing elements
.
❖ Wall panells
These are used in the 40mm thickness, on at least two of the walls,
normally adjacent walls. Their very high sound absorption
performance makes them ideal in such rooms. The different colours
and availability of the Shadow joint version in different sizes enables
good acoustics to be achieved in one practical product.
❖ Hanging Baffles:
hanging baffles are a great way to suck up those nasty echoes
in the studio while giving it a distinctive look. Just hang them
easily from the ceiling while they quietly pull those unwanted
reverberations away from the microphone
❖ Soundproof partition wall
It is a customizable range of partition panels that conforms to
the customer's precise specifications. As a soundproof
operable system, sound proof partition wall is the best choice
for places where noise reduction and space dividing are the
primary task.
❖ False ceilings
It can help to reduce noise and act as a soundproofing ceiling
solution for various reasons. Since they are suspended lower
than the actual ceiling rafters or beams, sound does not have a
direct path to travel from ceiling to floor in two story buildings
❖ Sound Barrier
They are designed to deaden the transmission of noise
from one room to the next. Ideal for isolating sound
within a contained space. And they can be used in almost
any commercial, industrial or residential setting. Great
for soundproofing walls, ceilings, and floors.
❖ Bass trap
Even though normal absorption panels are great to take
care of your reflections, bass needs a heavier approach.
Bass traps take care of the lower frequencies and leave
you with a cleaner sounding home studio.
The 24 x 24 x 4inches
Hemiffusor creates an
attractive acoustical
surface, and creates
both broad bandwidth
diffusion, and a
modest and beneficial
amount of absorption
across the frequency
spectrum . The panel
can be wall mounted
or suspended in a
standard T-bar ceiling
grid. Available in
Pawlonia wood or
Polystyrene

CATALUNYA RADIO STATION
Catalunya Radio is Catalonia's public radio network, whose headquarters
is in Barcelona. Catalunya Radio began broadcasting on 20 June 1983.
Over the years, it has expanded to encompass four separate stations:
● Catalunya Ràdio
● Catalunya Música
● Catalunya Informació
● iCat fmA
Catalunya Radio - The first station, and the one that gave the network
its name. A generalist station that broadcasts 24 hours a day and is the
third largest radio station in Catalonia by audience size.
This has turned radio studios into small television sets which need to
look after their appearance more than ever. Now the wood of the
acoustic panels for radio studios takes centre stage, bringing warmth
and elegance to the room.
