Benefits
Health Problem
caused by AIR
Pollution
• Corrosion in Boiler Tubes ,
Super Heater Area on account
of Sulphur and Sulphuric acid
formation in presence of
Problem caused moisture.
by SOx to Boiler • More excess Air is required
System during combustion phase.
• Clinker Formation, Restricts
heat transfer, Decrease steam
temp.
• Reduce Boiler Efficiency
Effect on Environment
• Produce Acidic Rain
• Responsible for structural
corrosion
• Acidifies Soil & water
bodies
• Generate by products
which are toxic for
Environments & Animals
MoEFCC Guidelines
(Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change)

• No specific Environmental Standards were Prescribed for SO2 Emissions

till 2015 (except power Plants located in Eco- sensitive Zones and in
Cities).
• Indian Coals having typically 0.3 to 0.6 % Sulfur, produce 800 -1200
mg/Nm3 of SOx, However in absence of Specific guideline this was not
treated as major concern.
• Considering the effect of SOx on Human being, Animals, Environments &
monument Structures MoEFCC has come-up with a stringent guideline to
control SOx Emission in Dec-2015
How to Control SOx Emission
1. By Mechanically & Chemically
(Weight & Dry Scrubber )
• By Install of FGD System

2. By Install of SCR on FG path

3. By Using Catalyst as Oxidizing

Agent
INDION-6354- An Oxidizing Catalytic Agent
• Targets to Reduce SOx & Emissions
• Being Organic in Nature - Safe for all Boiler &
Associated Equipment's
• Does not produce any harmful byproducts - Safe for
environments
• Reduce Sox emissions without Disturbing Boiler
Operation
• Prevent corrosion on account of Sulfur, through
reducing sulphuric acid formation.
• Make clinker porous/ breakable & Easy to Operation &
Reduce SPM
• Optimal Consumption based on Sulfur Contents in Coal
• Proven Product With Best Performance
Features of Indion-6354

• Combustion catalyst- In form of Hydrocarbon

• Strong Oxidizing agents, Detergents, Surfactants
all are Organic in Nature
• De- Vitrification Catalyst ( Neutralizing Agent)
• Corrosion Inhibitors
• Unique Multifunctional additive having neutral
pH at 10% solution (indicates safe for any boiler
applications)

Mode of Action of Indion-6354
SOx Formation With & Without Catalyst
• SO2& SO3 are formed in normal combustion process.
• S + O2 SO2
• 2 SO2 + O2 2SO3
• Vanadium present in the coal mix with Oxygen to form V2O5 which act as a Catalyst to form
SO2 to SO3.
• But due to presence of Indion-6354 catalyst, less free oxygen is available after combustion does
restrict formation of V2O5, instead formV2O4& V2O3. Resulting into reduced SOX Emissions.
• INDION-6354 proprietary catalyst makes it possible to trap Sulphur atom, in the hollow structure of
the Bucky-balls, which acts like a molecular cage. Due to this Sulphur in Bottom Ash increases (The
slides are attached for your references)
• SPATIAL MODEL Three-Dimensional Electron Bonds
• Although coal is primarily a mixture of carbon (black) and
With & Without Catalyst hydrogen (red) atoms, sulfur atoms (yellow) are also trapped
in coal, primarily in two forms.
• In one form, the sulfur is a separate particle often linked with
SOx Formation

iron (green) with no connection to the carbon atoms, as in the

center of the drawing. In the second form, sulfur is chemically
bound to the carbon atoms, such as in the upper left.
Catalytic Action of Indion-6354

SO2 & SO3 formation

Reduces Sox formation.

It helps Carbon Molecules to reacts with SO2 to form polymeric compounds which
comes down into ash.

+ SO2

This action prevents SO3 being formed.

Due to this phenomenon SOx emissions are reduced.
Sulphur in fly ash is reduced & that in Bottom Ash
is increased
