Kelly meyer spent the past three months trying to gather all the information she needs to
submit a bid on a order that is very important to her company. Kelly meyers met her
purchasing agent named janet williams and she just finished talking to her purchasing
agent. The manager of kelly Meyers really believes that she needs to have another
conversation with her purchasing agent and try to find out some additional information
that might help her win the bid. Couple of days later, kelly meyers visited her purchasing
agent and had a conversation with her. Kelly tried to ask about other competitor that is
present in the bidding but the purchasing agent graceful ignores the question of kelly
meyers . Kelly meyers secretly open the folder that the names of the bidders are present
without janet Williams concenrn because janet Williams boss calls her to see him in the
next room. Before janet Williams came back, kelly meyers had already looked everything
in the folder and saw all the bidders in there and they gad a small talk afterwards. A week
ANALYSIS
Kelly Myers discovered private information that was not intended for her. It’s unsure
whether the information was intentionally left for her to find. Kelly was in the process of
collecting information before making an important bid for her company. She met with the
purchasing agent, Janet Williams, in hopes of finding out who the other bidders were.
Janet did not disclose any details to Kelly about the bidders, although she left the file
containing all the bids on her desk while she stepped out of the office. Kelly is alone
with the file, the next day she submitted the lowest bid by $500 and subsequently won the
order. There are a few ethical issues with this situation. Kelly submitted her bid
intentionally lower, knowing that she would win. This was an unfair advantage . If it
were discovered that Kelly was sneaking to the other bids than her reputation as an
honest salesperson may be tarnished. If I would have been tempted to look at the bids but
the consequences of being caught would deter me from doing it. I don’t think having an
advantage like that is worth losing any job or breaking the law.
RECOMMENDATION
If I were Kelly Myers, I would not have looked at the other bids because I know this is
unethical. Cheating in the business world is not a good idea. I think Janet Williams did
not intend for Kelly to see the competitive bids. The case states that Kelly made a great
impression on Janet, so that makes Janet trusts her. Janet left the room for only a few
minutes and obviously trusted Kelly enough not to look at the bids. Kelly should have
had enough respect for Janet to not look at the bids. By looking at the bids, Kelly risked
her reputation. On the other hand, Janet might be intended to keep the bids opine and on
the disk in front of Kelly to see if Kelly will cheat and look at the bids or not. The issue
involved in this situation is the deceptive practice by Kelly. In a way, Kelly withheld
information from the purchasing agent because they do not know that she looked at the
other bids before finishing hers. While this act is not illegal, it isn’t accepted. Kelly
