EL SUSTANTIVO Y EL ARTÍCULO – PRÁCTICA.

EJERCICIO 1:

Read the following text and choose the correct article “a” – “an” – “the” or “/ - /”
(no article)

a/an/the/-/ Engineering is largely a/an/the/-/ practical activity. It is about ideas into

action. a/an/the/-/ Civil engineering is concerned with making bridges, roads, airports,
etc.

a/an/the/-/ Mechanical engineering deals with a/an/the/-/ design and manufacture of

tools and machines.

a/an/the/-/ Electrical engineering is about a/an/the/-/ generation and distribution of

electricity and its many applications.

a/an/the/-/ Electronic engineering is concerned with developing components and

equipment for communications, computing, and so on.

a/an/the/-/ Mechanical engineering includes marine, automobile, aeronautical, heating

and ventilating, and others.

a/an/the/-/ Electrical engineering includes a/an/the/-/ electricity generating, electrical

installation, lighting, etc.

a/an/the/-/ Mining and medical engineering belong partly to mechanical and partly to
electrical.

a/an/the/-/ Chemical engineers work in a/an/the/-/ chemical process industries.

These include a/an/the/-/ plants that manufacture such things as a/an/the/-/ food
products, plastics, fertilizers, petroleum products, synthetic (man-made) fibers such as
nylon, and a/an/the/-/ basic chemicals used in many factories such as acid, álcalis, and
dyes.

EJERCICIO 2:

1. Lea los siguientes párrafos y subraye en rojo los sustantivos.

A)
A metal is a material (an element, compound, or alloy) that is typically hard, opaque,
shiny, and has good electrical and thermal conductivity. Metals are generally malleable,
fusible and ductile.

B)

Benjamin Franklin conducted extensive research on electricity in the 18 th century, as

documented in 1767 in the book History and Present Status of Electricity.

C)

Corrosion attacks all engineering materials, especially metals. Corrosion is any

chemical action which harms the properties of a material. It reduces the life of a
material and increases the cost of a structure.

D)

The speed of sound depends on the medium that the waves pass through, and it is a
fundamental property of the material. The first significant effort towards the measure of
the speed of sound was made by Newton.

E)

The nature of mining processes creates a potential negative impact on the environment
both during the mining operations and for years after the mine is closed. This impact
has led most of the world's nations to adopt regulations designed to moderate the
negative effects of mining operations.
