SediCon Project Year 2010 Khimti Headworks Sedicon Sluicer 1
SediCon Project Year 2010 Khimti Headworks Sedicon Sluicer 1

Client: Khimti HPP is owned and operated by Himal Power (controlled by SN Power).
Sediment Challenge: The desilting basins at Khimti are twice as large as the size dictated by this
criterion, and removes nearly all particles above 0,13 mm. Thick sediment deposits in
the expansion zone has prevented operation of the main flushing system, and manual
excavation and flushing of the desilting basins have been frequently required.
Solution: SediCon Sluicers were installed in expansion zone in the upstream end of the desilting
basin. The SediCon Sluicers can be operated intermittent or continuously, and can
remove at least 3000 m3 sediment per hour.
Results: Total capacity of the system was measured to 3000 m3 sediment deposits per hour.
On average, 5m3 water was required to remove one m3 sediment. Flushing discharge
each SediCon Sluicer is 1,0 m3/s. Average sediment concentration was measured
(during SAT) to be 11 % by volume, whereas maximum concentration was more than
20,5 % by volume. Grain size d50, of the sediments removed was 04 – 0,7 mm.
