Position held: Resident Engineer at Butwal Power Company Limited. ;
• Andhikhola Hydropower Project (Upgrading), 10.4MW; Syangaja, Nepal;(Project Cost: 1000 millions/HM Cost 90
million). The Andhi Khola Hydropower Project (Upgrading) aims to rehabilitate and upgrade the existing Andhi Khola
Hydroelectric and Rural electrification Project to a size of 10.4 MW. The existing 5.1 MW project is a Winner of IHA-UNESCO
Blue Planet Prize in 2005. The existing project was built under the funding of United Mission to Nepal and Nepalese
Government and is in operation from 1991. The project was designed with a low installed capacity keeping in view the energy
demand of back then. But latter the necessity of upgrading was realised to its optimal capacity to meet country’s energy
demand. The project is located in Syangja District, Western Development Region of Nepal, about 300 km South-west of
Kathmandu. The job scope of the work covers the preparation of the detailed design, supervision of Fabrication works and
installation works for Hydromechanical works. The project comprises of an undersluice radial gate of WxH = 2.5mx3m
Name of assignment or project:; Year: November 2007- September 2009; Position held: Design Engineer/ Senior Design
Engineer/ Mechanical Engineer at Abhiyan Engineering Works Nepal Pvt. Ltd. ;
Mr. Thapa was involved in following projects as a mechanical engineer:
• Motorization and Imrpovization of Flushing Gates for Chilime HEP , 22.1 MW was commissioned on August 25, 2003
and located in Rasuwa district, 133 km north of capital city Kathmandu. It sales bulk electricity to NEA at the long term PPA
price. The annual energy generation from the plant is about 150 GWh. The flushing gates at desander needs to be operated
very frequently. The manual operation was very much tedious, hence the need to motorized these gates was identified by
the plant and the job was awarded to AEW. Mr. Thapa was involved in the improvisation of the gates and design of gate
hoists.
• Trash Rack and Trash rack Cleaner for Chilime HEP, 22.1 MW In the initial design there was no trash rack in the water
way. Therefore a lot of fine debris used to be collected in the desander. Hence the need of a fine trash rack was identified.
Further the cleaning mechanism was also required in order to prevent frequent choking of the fine rack. AEW was awarded
the work for design, fabrication and installation of fine rack and its automatic cleaning machine. Mr, Thapa was involved in
design and installation works.
• Trash Rack and Trash Rack Cleaner for Jhimrukh HEP, 12 MW . Jhimrukh Khola Hydropower Project is a run of the river
project in Pyuthan District owned by Butwal Power Company Limited which is in operation since 1994.Frequent choking of
trash rack at tunnel inlet was a serious problem in the power plant which was hampering the generation of the plant. Hence
the job for design, fabrication and installation of trash rack cleaning machine was awarded to AEW. Mr. Thapa was involved
in the design, fabrication and installation works.
• Design of Trash Rack Cleaner for Modi Khola HEP, 14.8MW. Since from the first year of operation, the project was
suffering from the problem of frequent choking of fine rack at side intake. The job was awarded to AEW for design,
fabrication and installation of Trash Rack cleaner.
• Feasibility Study of Jhayari Khola HEP , 1.5 MW. Electro Com and Research Center has awarded the job of feasibility
study of Jhayari Khola HEP. Mr. Thapa was involved in the design of Hydromechanical Works including gates, stoplogs and
trash racks. The project is currently under construction.
Name of assignment or project:; Year: November 2004- September 2007; Position held: Mechanical Engineer/Sr. Mechanical

• Khudi Hydro Electric Project (4 MW) :( Project Cost 700 Million, HM Cost 145 Million). Khudi Hydropower Project is a
run-of-river small hydropower scheme with gross head of 103 m designed for an installed capacity of 4 MW with two
generating units. Headwork consist of boulder lined weir, intake, under sluice, approach canal, desilting basin and forebay.
Waterway consists of about 2.5 km long exposed steel penstock pipe of 1.75 m diameter from headworks to powerhouse
with Inverted Syphone across the Khudi River.
Mr. Thapa was involved in the fabrication works of the gates, penstock and expansion joints of this project and motorization
of gate hoisting system.
• Middle Marsyangdi Hydroelectric Project, 70MW: Lamjung; NEA/VA Tech/ Voith, (Project Cost: 35,000 millions/HM
Cost 1200 millions). The project is developed by NEA. VA Tech and Voiths are their main contractors of Hydraulic Steel
Structure which was subcontracted to NHE. The project is in operation currently.
Mr. Thapa was involved in the fabrication of radial gates ( 15m x 21m) and preparation of part drawings for CNC machine.
