Plan
Preparation Introductory Checking of assignment:
Activity Each group submit a saved document (in
(5 mins) a Flash drive)and a hard copy containing a
one paragraph composition about a favorite
person.
The students view their work on screen.
(If multimedia is not available, hard copy will
be used instead.)
Presentation Activity Task 1: Picture Viewing
(10 mins)  Students view a picture of Manny
Pacquaio.
 Using meta strips, students write
phrases/statements about Manny
Pacquiao: birthplace, parents, family,
title, awards, hobbies, character.
 Students fill out a graphic organizer on
the board by
supplying the appropriate meta strips
in it.
Task 2: Students read a written capsule
biography of Manny Pacquiao on a
chart/in
powerpoint (prepared beforehand by
the teacher).
Analysis Students answer the following questions:
(10 mins) 1. Give the details about the life of
Manny Pacquaio as seen in the
graphic organizer.
2. How did you happen to know about
Manny Pacquaio?
3. What are other ways of knowing
about the life of an important person
like Manny Pacquaio?
4. How do you call this composition that
tells about the life of Manny Pacquiao?
Abstraction A biography narrates the most important
(20 mins) facts of someone’s life, his or her childhood,
adolescence, military service, wars he or she
lived through, educational background,
professional life, marriage, children, and most
outstanding achievements. Also it tells
anecdotes, memories, trips and dearly
cherished moments. It is our most precious
legacy to the world and mainly to our family.

A short biography that contains simple


paragraph/s that include more general and
basic facts, than a biography that is several
pages long, is called a capsule biography.

For a basic paragraph, your biography should


include facts like:
 date and place of birth (and death, if
applicable)
 major achievements

 education

 work facts

 an overview of what makes the


person significant

Written communication (50 points)


 Organization
o Inadequate (10 points):  There appears to be no organization of the
essay’s contents.
o Needs Improvement (15 points):  Organization of the essay is difficult
to follow, due to inadequate transitions and/or rambling format.
o Adequate (20 points):  The essay can be easily followed.  A
combination of the following is apparent:  Basic transitions are used; a
structured format is used.
o Professional quality (25 points):  The essay can be easily followed.  A
combination of the following is apparent:  Effective transitions are
used; a professional format is used.
 Mechanics and grammar
o Inadequate (10 points):  Sentences and paragraphs are difficult to
read and understand due to poor grammar or mechanics
o Needs improvement (15 points):  The essay contains numerous
grammatical and mechanical errors.
o Adequate (20 points):  The essay contains minimal grammatical or
mechanical errors.
