a. Social Sciences:

Definition:

The social science consists of investigation of man and his relationships to his physical and
cultural environments; they seek orderly explanation of human behavior but those explanations
that are testable.

Explanation:

Social science deals with the human beings, their behaviors that may be from within themselves
or related to the outer/physical environment. The exact science can be experimented under the
controlled conditions that can labs but it is not true for the social science.

b. The aim and objectives of Social Science:

Following are the aim and objectives of Social science;

 Social Science enables a person to control him/her self. One can learn the lessons of
mental discipline with the help of this science. And this is most needed for his/her benefit
and for that of society.
 The ultimate aim of social science is to evolve a law, which will explain every facet of
nature. Whether man will be able to find such a law is still an open question.
 Social Science helps in in order to make the nature serve mankind and teaches us to use
nature for the good of society and to promote and eulogize the man-society relationships.

c. Major areas of study within Psychology:

Psychology is a science that studies behavior and those unseen factor and processes which shape
the behavior of an individual.it is a new science and expanding in scope and getting divided into
branches and specialization. Following are areas of study within psychology:
 Educational psychology: Deals with the dis-orders, photogenic memory or genius cases
 Industrial psychology: Deals with the problems of training the personnel and their
sustained motivation in industry, offices and commercial enterprises.
 Social psychology: Deals with the individual’s interpersonal relationships, likes and
dislikes and how people behave when they are alone.
 Developmental psychology: deals with the investigation of mental and physical growth
of individuals.
 Physiological psychology: Deals with the changes in behavior due to physical changes
like the changes due to growth of the body of an individual.
 Clinical psychology: Deals with the study of diagnostic and treats problems of
adjustment.

d. Family; as social institution

A key concept in the social sciences, and especially in demography and sociology, is that of the
family.  The family is generally regarded as a major social institution and a locus of much of a
person's social activity. It is a social unit created by blood, marriage, or adoption, and can be
described as nuclear (parents and children) or extended (encompassing other relatives). Question
