WEBINAR-WORKSHOP ON ACTION RESEARCH FOR TEACHERS

E. RATIONALE

One of the best options for teachers and researchers in the education
sector is to engage and consider having action research. Basically, it gives an
opportunity to study and understand the situation in the school to enhance the
quality of the educational processes. This would also allow the learning and
teaching community to gain new knowledge and provide solutions to existing and
recurring predicaments in the school.

However, there are barriers in which it makes research difficult for

teachers to conduct. One of the main reasons as studied by Langan, Jerusalem
and Hussien (2019) is the poor knowledge in making a research paper. Their
thematic analysis highlights the need of training and mentoring which also
included the needs for seminar, workshops, mentoring, technical assistance, and
LAC Sessions in research.

In addition, in recent news, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian urged the

Department of Education (DepEd) to probe reports of teachers buying ready-
made research for promotion. Such practice was dubbed by the senator to be
“unethical and shows lack of integrity and should not be tolerated.” This roots to
the barrier aforementioned that the teachers resort to such kind of bribery. It does
not only affect the teachers’ reputation as role models of knowledge and wisdom
but also the students who they teach the basics of research. Gatchalian also
iterated, “In reforming teacher education and training, we should foster
coherence in the entire continuum of teacher education and training—from pre-
service to in-service—and ensure that our aspiring teachers are equipped with
the skills that DepEd require, including the capacity to produce quality research.”
With the propositions mentioned, it is only timely to conduct a webinar-
workshop that focuses on training teachers on how to conduct and make a
research out of the existing problems in their respective schools. This would help
alleviate the problems and barriers mentioned little by little. The seminar-
workshop will also work on identifying the gaps in achieving meaningful learning

in the new normal. This will help teachers in their journey to become confident in
making their own research independently and innovate their ways of teaching by
employing timely strategies and interventions.

F. OBJECTIVES
The Webinar-Workshop aims to;
1. Provide teachers with technical assistance in writing school-
based action research;
2. Identify potential educational gaps in achieving meaningful
learning in the new normal and;
3. Create a capsulized action research proposal based on the
gaps they identified in their school.
G. WEBINAR DESCRIPTION
This is a two-day Webinar-Workshop series conceptualized by the
Graduate Students of Central Mindanao University - College of Education to aid
the teachers of (PCF) Philippine College Foundation on creating an action
research which will serve as help for the teachers of the PCF and equipped them
with profound skills and knowledge on solving problems existing in their school
especially on the classroom setting. This Webinar-Workshop aims to let the
participants/teachers use action research as a tool to improve teaching and
learning. Also, identify potential educational problems that need to be addressed
especially in the new normal to develop meaningful learning, and create specific
pedagogical practices to produce an effective learning environment.

H. SEMINAR IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

This webinar-workshop on action research for teachers is guided with the
principle of distance, collaborative and outcome-based learning. Providing an
avenue for the participants to learn at their own comfort using the online
resources. This webinar is flexible which ensures a learning experience which
supports interaction to cater participant’s interest to address their need in
research. Through the process of question and answer, giving context, and

explaining specific examples and solutions both the speaker and participants will
have a meaningful learning. Workshop will pave the way to ensure learning
outcomes through collaborative effort.
For the implementation, six (6) topics will be discussed about the types
and parts of action research. Further discussion about the potential gap and its
intervention and innovation. To supplement their understanding, statistical tools,
website and software will be introduced. After each talk of the speakers,
participants are expected to have a capsulized action research proposal that will
be done by group of four (4).
