Drumline is a story about a boy, Devon who was in a marching band in his high school.

He was
sort of a troublemaker. Luckily for him, he got a scholarship in the A&T university in Atlanta
which is famous for its marching band. Devon really wanted to join the band.

Since the introduction for the freshman who wants to join the band, Devon lands himself in a
lot of trouble. Devon is a great snare drum player and he is the only freshman that makes it to
P1, which is the main player in the band. He gets very cocky, which irritates his instrument
leader, Sean. They become enemies instantly. Sean challenges Devon to take his solo in the first
performance. Sean was convinced that Devon will get nervous of the crowd and drop his stick.
Surprisingly, Devon did a great job doing the solo and satisfy the school’s president.

Dr. Lee, the head of the band, isn’t satisfied with the performance because Sean and Devon
make changes after the rehearsal. Dr. Lee doesn’t quite like Devon’s attitude and find out
Devon can’t read music so he put Devon in P4 until he learn to read music. Devon was put back
in P1 because Dr. Lee was pressured by the school’s president. During a battle with a rival band
during a game, Devon caused a fight and got kicked out of the band.

Devon was devastated, he got in contact with the head of the rival band who offers him a
scholarship. When he found out that the head of the rival band offered him the scholarship was
only to get the songs that the A&T band will play for the BET Classic which is an annual
competition for bands. Devon was very disgusted by the head of the rival band so he
immediately rejects the offer.

The same night, Devon received a package from his father who sent him recordings of
legendary bands. Devon learned the drum pieces quickly. Then, he got up to Sean and talk to
him. They finally made up and Sean offered to teach music to Devon. Sean was also impressed
with what Devon played while they ‘talked’. With that, they formed an intro for the BET Classic
for the band. They decided to show Dr. Lee what they had made and he quite liked the idea. Dr.
Lee also forgave Devon but he still wasn’t playing in the BET Classic.

Before the BET Classic, Dr. Lee told the band to enjoy their band performance rather than
others. The band performed well for the competition, but they did not win. The scores are tied
with their rival band so the A&T and the rival band performed a faceoff where Devon was put
back in P1. The A&T band was very happy to found out that they had won the competition.
