THESE SYSTEMS ARE MADE PRIMARILY TO WARN RESIDENTS IN
DENSELY POPULATED AREAS UP TO 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE FOR
THE POSSIBLE STORM SURGES.
1. PORTABLE WATER LEVEL MONITORING
SYSTEM VIA SMS
It is a research project by Jomar S. Vitales, Lowell D.
Villajin, Froilan G. Destreza, David V. Ricafranca, and
Victor Michael R. Rodriguez of the College of
Engineering and Computing Sciences, Batangas State
University. It is a device that warns people an hour or
more than an hour before the devastating
phenomena.

OBJECTIVE
There are three levels of warning, minor, moderate
and the major level. When the water level reaches the
minor level sensor, the device will send SMS which has
this message. “The water level starts to become
higher please stay at home”. When the water level
reaches the moderate level sensor, the device will
send SMS which has this message “Warning! The water
level reached the moderate level, please prepare all
things that you need, evacuation is possible at
anytime!” and when the water level reaches the major
level sensor, the device will send SMS which has this
message “Alert! The water level reaches the critical
level, please evacuate immediately”. The device will
be supplied by solar power.

2. AUTOMATED RAIN GAUGE STATION

It is developed by the DOST’s Advance Science
and Technology Institute (ASTI). It caters the
need for a locally-developed and cost-effective
weather station that provides timely rainfall data.
The equipment used are part of Project NOAH.

OBJECTIVE
The Automated Rain Gauge Station is a weather
device equipped with a mechanical tipping
bucket connected to the ASTI-developed
Advanced Remote Data-Acquisition unit which
gathers and records rainfall parameters including
rain amount, rain intensity and rain duration in a
specified time interval. It sends rainfall data
through SMS or via satellite network which is
viewable through a website.
