Overview
Use this scenario to change the O&M extraction point for an 9130 BSC Evolution.
The BSCs can have O&M over Ethernet or O&M over Ater, but one BSC cannot be used
with both O&M over Ethernet and O&M over Ater connections at the same time.
The Atermux links used for O&M transport must be consecutive. A dedicated GPRS
Atermux link cannot be used to carry O&M flow. If O&M transport is needed on a
dedicated Ater mux, use Move Dedicated GPRS Link into Direct CS Link or Move
Dedicated GPRS Link into Mixed CS / GPRS Link before starting the procedure to
change the O&M extraction point.
In both the initial and final states, the 9153 OMC-R is connected to the Ethernet LAN
using one IP link.

Issue 1 August 2012
Overview Presentation

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Together with O&M over Ater, O&M extraction at the MSC site decreases the cost of the
9153 OMC-R / BSC connection by using the BSS's own transport network instead of an
external IP network for the O&M data flow between the 9153 OMC-R and the remote
9130 BSC Evolution. When O&M is routed over Ater, if the MSC does not support the
SPC function, O&M must be extracted at the TC side.
In the case of O&M over Ethernet, the 9130 BSC Evolution communicates with the 9153
OMC-R via the active OMCP board through Ethernet switches. When the link through
one switch is out of order, the communication continues through the second Ethernet
switch if a redundant link is provided between the BSC and LAN.
In the case of O&M extraction at the TC or at MSC side, the 9130 BSC Evolution
communicates with the 9153 OMC-R using O&M over Ater through a number of Ater
links. The default and recommended value is four Ater for one 9130 BSC Evolution, but
any value between 2 and 16 can be configured. The bandwidth is proportional with the
number of Ater mux links having O&M timeslots allocated for this purpose.
The following figures illustrate the main solutions for O&M extraction:
• Direct O&M
• O&M over Ater, MSC Routed
• O&M over Ater, TC Routed.
In order to change O&M extraction point for more than one 9130 BSC Evolution, apply
the complete scenario for each BSC, one after another.

Applicable Documents
You must have the following documents or have electronic access to the following
documents:
• BSS Methods Handbook
• BSS O&M Routing Configurations
• BSS Configuration Handbook
• BSS Surveillance Handbook
• Network Reconfiguration Recommendations
The specific documents applicable to this scenario are:
• BSC Terminal User Guide
• Operator Hints.

Preparation
Prerequisites
The following prerequisites apply:
• No other configuration modification is allowed in the network
• The corresponding router must be installed and configured.
For more details about how to install and configure router refer to the document BSS
O&M Routing Configurations .
• For C1 or C6:
As follows:
– The MSC must be operational and ready for the change
– Ensure you have enough available timeslots on the existing PCM link between the
MSC and Cisco router. Otherwise, ensure you have one more available port.
• For C2 or C3:
As follows:
– The TC must be operational and ready for the change.
– Ensure you have enough serial ports to connect each X.21 Ater mux carrying
O&M.
• For C1 or C2, verify that for each 9130 BSC Evolution, the Ater mux links intended
to be used for O&M over Ater are connected and operational
• Availability of a local PC.
The following sections describe the reserved IP addresses assignments for 1LAN / 2
LANs solutions .

Change Extraction Point

Procedure
Change the extraction point:
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 Before modifying the extraction point or before adding ML-PPP links, you must remove
the GPRS from the impacted Ater mux links. Perform the following actions for all
impacted Ater mux links:
• If it is the last GSL of the GP in a Multi-GP, Lock GPRS on Cells from GP to stop
GPRS on all cells mapped on the GP
• If it is the last GSL on the BSC, Lock GPRS on BSS
• If one of the previous two operations was performed, then Lock NS-VC
• If GSL is activated on the Ater mux, Lock GSL
• If TC transparency is enabled and Gb is configured through TC, delete Gb resources:
Delete NS-VC and Delete NSE
• Unreserve Ater Timeslots for GPRS
• If TC transparency is enabled, change it to disabled (mandatory)
• If GSL is activated on the Ater mux, when a question appears, click on OK
• The configuration state in the BSC part of the Ater Supervision window becomes In
progress. Wait until Available appears in this window.
• If the Abis/Ater window is opened, during the audit, the following message appears:
Abis/Ater view is not up to date! It will be reloaded! Click on
OK
• Align GPRS Configuration on One TP.
(The MFS part of the Ater Supervision window is then updated).
• Unlock Released CS Timeslot on concerned Ater mux links and verify (see “Display
A Channels Synthesis Window” (p. 2-32)) if the previous GPRS timeslots are now CS
timeslots and unlocked.
Case/Option None.
Site OMC-R

Outage STARTO (reduction)
Refer to “Telecom / Supervision Outage and Operating Impact” (p. 1-17).
Note: Write down the GPRS configuration for all impacted Ater mux links, as you
need to set the GPRS to the initial values after successfully changing the extraction
point.

Verify Connection between BSC and Router

Procedure
Perform the following actions:
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 From the local BSC terminal, connect to the active OMCP and type the password when
requested:
telnet <active OMCP IP address>
telnet <IP address of Cisco router>
Type the appropriate password when required.
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

2 If the connection cannot be established, connect to the active TPGSM:

telnet <IP address of the active TPGSM>
Connect to the Cisco router (in the case of extraction at the TC side with 2 Cisco routers,
connect to the router near the TC)
telnet <IP address of the Cisco router>
If the connection can be established, reset the active OMCP (from LMT). When the
message SBL RESET SUCCESSFUL appears, redo all previous steps.
If the connection from TPGSM to Cisco router near the TC cannot be established, refer to
BSS O&M Routing Configurations and check the Cisco router setup and the physical
connection between the Cisco router and the TC.
