Packing, Marking and Shipment
19.1.7 Safety relief valves shall be designed to ensure maximum leak-tightness in the closed position.
Safety relief valve seat tightness shall be as per API RP-527.
19.1.8 Pressure drop in PSV inlet must not exceed 3% of SP of PSV
19.1.9 PSV inlet & outlet line size shall be equal or greater than PSV nozzle size
19.1.10 The design temperature & pressure shown in the datasheet should be used for the design of
pressure retaining parts of pressure safety valves & the operating temperature shown in datasheet
should be used for design of temperature sensitive materials e.g. elastomer component used in the
PSV.
19.1.11 An adjusting ring shall be provided for the safety valve & the construction of gasket & bolts/nuts shall
be suitable for the safety valve material & operating condition.

19.2 Safety Relief Valve Design
19.2.1 All pressure relief/safety valves shall be sized and installed in accordance with API RP 520 and
ASME Code Section VIII Div.1
19.2.2 All applicable local and national codes shall be complied.
19.2.3 Vendor shall submit sizing calculation for each safety valve for all cases including rated relieving flow
capacity, reaction force and noise level calculation. The size of the relief valve shall be determined
based on most severe individual scenario/relief condition.
19.2.4 Valve selection will be based on maximum operating temperature and relief valve set pressure.
19.2.5 Discharge velocity shall not exceed 0.5 mach
19.2.6 When "IBR Certification" is required as per datasheet, all valves shall be provided with IBR form IIIC
certificate.
19.2.7 End Connections shall normally be flanged with facing and rating in accordance with the datasheet.
However, where applicable API STD 526 sizes and ratings shall always govern. Centre-to-face
dimensions shall be in accordance with API STD 526 where applicable.
19.2.8 Percentage Over-pressure, Accumulation and Blow-down used in the calculation of orifice sizes of
relieving devices shall be as follows:

Blow-down:
5-7% - For vapour, gas and steam service
10-20% - For liquid service
Nomenclatures shall be in accordance with API RP-520.
19.2.9 Safety and Relief Valves shall generally be the flanged, direct spring-loaded type with high-lift, high-
capacity and top-guided disc. All safety relief valves shall be full nozzle full lift type. Full nozzle type
valves shall normally be specified for size 1" and larger.
19.2.10 All valves shall be provided with a cap over the adjusting bolt. Cap shall be of either bolted type or
screwed type.
19.2.11 Code Stamps shall be furnished with safety relief valves where applicable. 0
19.2.12 Body drain with a plug shall be provided as a standard feature on every safety relief valve.
19.2.13 Pilot design shall be of inherently fail safe. All accessories like back flow preventer, pilot filter etc.
required for proper operation of pilot operated valves shall be included.
19.2.14 Full Nozzle Type Valves shall normally be specified for size 1" and larger. Only the nozzle and parts
comprising the disc may be exposed to the inlet pressure and to possible corrosive action of the fluid
when the valve is closed. The valve shall have an adjustable blow-down ring. If a maximum 4%
blow-down is required, the valve shall have two rings.
19.2.15 Nozzles and Discs shall normally be SS 316 and hard seating shall be applied as per manufacturer's
standard.
19.2.16 Spring material shall be SS316 below -29 DegC. Chrome steel (Aluminized painted) to be used in
the relieving temperature range from -29 DegC to 230 DegC, Tungsten alloy steel springs shall be
used for relieving temperatures in excess of 230 DegC to 538 DegC. Inconel shall be used for
temperatures in excess of 538 degC
19.2.17 The springs of relief valves shall be given a suitable coating to protect against general corrosion
and/or sulphide stress corrosion cracking. Coatings of cadmium or zinc shall not be used due to the
risk of liquid metal embitterment during service and/ or hydrogen embitterment during the galvanizing
process. Suitable aluminum coatings may be used.
19.2.18 Where Stelliting is required, the Stelliting of disc and nozzle stands for Stelliting of the seat joint and
the entire disc contour, unless otherwise mentioned.
19.2.19 Gaskets wherever used shall be metallic type as specified in the datasheets.
19.2.20 All vent holes on bonnet of bellow seal valves shall be closed by wire mesh or by bug screen
