Test-3
Name—Daniel Baloch---------------
1. Assuming that each of the following graphs has the same concentration and time axes,
which has the greatest initial rate of disappearance of reactant?

a. c.

A is correct answer.

b. d.

2. The following graph shows the kinetics curves for the reaction of oxygen with
hydrogen to form water: O2(g) + 2H2(g) → 2H2O(g). Which curve is hydrogen?

a. the dashed curve

b. the gray curve

c. the black curve (my answer)

d. either the gray or the black curve

e. Any of these curves could be hydrogen

3. Define a reversible reaction
--It’s a reaction where the conversion of reactants to products and the conversion of
products to the reactants happens simultaneously. Also in rewritten chemistry we
use double arrows to define a reversible reaction.. ---

4. Compare the rates of the forward and backward reactions at equilibrium.

Every reactions goes towards a state of chemical equilibrium, which is the point
where both the forward process and the reverse process are taking place at the
same rate. Because of that the forward and reverse rates are equal, and the
concentrations of the reactants and products are constant at equilibrium.

5. What is Le Chatelier’s Principle?

-- Le Chatelier's principle is that if a dynamic equilibrium is having stress as its
disturbed by changing the conditions, or the position of where equilibrium shifts to
counteract the change to start an equilibrium. And when a chemical reaction is at
equilibrium and experiences a change in pressure or temperature or
concentration of products or reactants, the equilibrium shifts in the opposite
direction to start the change. -------

6. Write the expression for the equilibrium constant for this reaction

4H2(g) +CS2(g)⇌CH4(g) +2H2S(g)

7. In the Contact Process, sulfur dioxide is converted into sulfur trioxide and the
following equilibrium is set up:

2SO2(g)+O2(g)⇌2SO3(g) +Q
How is the equilibrium position of this reaction affected by the following changes?

a) Lowering the temperature = Moves to the left

b) Increasing the pressure = moves to the right
c) Removing hydrogen as it forms = moves to the left
d) Adding water vapor

8. What effect will each of the following changes have on the equilibrium position
for this reversible reaction?
PCl5(g) + heat ⇌ PCl3(g) + Cl2(g)
a. Cl2 is added = moves to the left
b. Pressure is increased = moves to the left
c. Heat is removed = moves to the left

9. What are three stresses that can upset the equilibrium of a chemical system?

--- pressure. Temperature. concentration of products or reactants

------------------------

10. What would be the effect on the equilibrium position if the volume is decreased
in this reaction?
4HCl(g)+ O2(g) ⇌ 2Cl2(g) + 2H2O(g)

--------Equilibrium will move to right side-------------------------------------------

11. Suppose the following system reaches equilibrium

N2(g) + O2(g) ⇌ 2NO(g)

The equilibrium mixture is in a 1L flask. The mixture contains 0,5 mol of N 2; 0,5
mol of O2 and 0,2 mol of NO. Calculate Keq for the reaction.

Keq = 0.01
