1. Definition of Discussion text

Discussion is a process of finding common ground between two different thoughts,

views or opinion. And discussion text can be defined.
Discussion text is a text wich presents a problematic discourse This problem will be
discussed from different viewpoints. Discussion is commonly found in philospichal,
historic, and social text. Discussion is a kind of genre used to present two points of
view about an issue.

2. Generic Structure of Discussion

 Statement of issue ; stating the issue which is to discussed
 List of supporting points ; presenting other point in supporting the presented issue
 List of constrasctive point ; presenting other ponts which disagree to the
supporting point
 Recommendation ; stating the writer’s recommendation of the discourse

3. Language Feature of Discussion

 Introduction category or generic participant
 Using thinking verb ; feel, hope, believe; etc.
 Using additive, constrastive, and casual connection ; similiarly, on the other hand,
however, etc.
 Using adverbial of manner ; deliberately, hopefully, etc
 Simple present tense

Discussion texts are not limited to controversial issues but polarised views are
generally used to teach text types as this makes it easier to teach children how to
present different viewpoints and provide evidence for them. Discussion contrast
with persuasion texts which generally only develop one view point and may
present a based view, often the writer’s own.

4. Purpose of Discussion text

To present and reason and balanced overview of an issue or controversial topic.
Usually aims to provide (at least) two or more different views on an issue, each with
elaborations, evidence and/or examples.

Television
 Televison becomes part of our life. Everyday we watch television. We usually watch
television after working, getting together with family, even when we are working.As
Issue the part of our life, television has bad and good effects. People have different opinion
about the negative and positive impacts of watching Tv.

The bad effect most people say are TV makes us lack of movement.We stay for a
long time on TV,its not healthy for healthy life. They also say that TV influence our
Pros daily life. Sometimes we don’t realize that we become more consuming after
watching various ads. Some Tv show influence way children act. Therudeness and
violence come to our hous without permission through television.

But the pther people say that television has good impact. We can get much
information from V. When there is something happened in another city, we know
Cons directly, through the news. Its also makes us relax after working all day, we come
home and turn on TV to watch funny and comedy videos.
Conclude and So we can conclude that TV has good and bad effects to our life. Our tasks is how to
recomendation choose the good things or bad things

Explanation:

First paragraph: Issue, which contains a brief description of the author about watching
television.
The second paragraph: Against argument for, describes the bad effects of watching
television, which include : it's not healthy for health, people become consuming
cause some ads, and also it influences the way children act.
third paragraph : Argument, which explains the benefits of watching television
namely: Television gives us a lot of information such as weather, news which it
shows directly and also it entertains .
Then the last one is conclusion and few recommendations from the author for
watching television. We should be smart watcher because there are so much things
show in TV.
