In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses character actions and setting to reveal that

love is difficult.

Through the actions of Juliet, the audience learns the difficulty of love. After Friar

Lawrence explains the plan, Juliet shouts” Give me the vial. Give it to me! Talk to

me about fear” (4.1.124)

This quote is explaining how desperate Juliet is. When she says “ Talk to me about

fear” she is saying for the fear of her life, the fear of what her family could do to

Romeo and end up marrying Paris and her life getting ruined. To the point where

she doesn’t care where she ends up as long as she is not near her family or Paris.

“My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too

late! Prodigious birth of it is to me, That i must love a loathed enemy.” (Act 1, Scene

5)

Juliet soon realizes that she’s fallen in love with her family’s worst enemy, a

Montague. She knows that they can’t be together because her father will disown her.
“A greater power than we can contradict hath thwarted our intents” (5: 3: 153-154)

A higher power controlled Romeo and Juliet’s destiny. It was only through their

deaths that their parents bicker was finally over with.

The reality of death for Romeo and Juliet washed over their families, and grief soon

began to set in, both Montague and Capulet swore to honor each other’s children

and to never forget the slaughter of innocent life. Fate forced the two families to

come together, to stop their hatred and to adopt forgiveness.
